Community Health Initiative (CHI), a leading Napa and Solano County non-profit dedicated to expanding access to healthcare through enrollment assistance, patient education, and advocacy, is seeking a passionate and experienced Development Associate to help lead our fundraising efforts.

Position Summary

The Development Associate is responsible for coordinating and supporting the organization’s fundraising and development activities, with a primary focus on grant management, donor identification and cultivation, and development operations. This position works closely with the Executive Director to strengthen and expand philanthropy that supports the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

While the Executive Director serves as the primary relationship manager and spokesperson with funders and donors, the Development Associate plays a critical role in identifying opportunities, managing timelines, preparing materials, coordinating communications, and ensuring successful execution of fundraising efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Management & Fund Development

Research, identify, and track grant and funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
In collaboration with a grant writer and CHI staff, prepare, write, edit, and submit grant applications, proposals, letters of inquiry, grant reports, and supporting documentation.
Maintain grant calendars, deadlines, reporting schedules, and compliance requirements.
Coordinate collection of program data, budgets, narratives, and outcome measures needed for proposals and reports.
Maintain accurate records of grant activity, funding status, and reporting requirements.

Donor & Funder Coordination

Support the Executive Director in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and community partners.
Coordinate meetings, presentations, tours, events, and engagement opportunities between the Executive Director and donors/funders.
Prepare briefing materials, talking points, donor profiles, and follow-up communications for donor meetings.
Assist with donor stewardship activities including acknowledgements, updates, and annual impact report.
Work with the Executive Director and staff to develop strategies to strengthen donor engagement and diversify funding streams.

Development Operations

Maintain donor and funding databases, records, and tracking systems.
Assist with fundraising campaigns, special events, sponsorships, and community outreach initiatives.
Monitor fundraising progress and prepare development reports for leadership and the Board of Directors.
Collaborate with program and finance staff to ensure alignment between funding requirements and program implementation.
Support development-related marketing and communication efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business administration, public administration, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, development coordination, or related work.
Demonstrated experience managing grants with successful funding outcomes preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in donor and organizational communications.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and donor management/database systems.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge of nonprofit funding structures, grants management, and donor stewardship practices.
Experience coordinating fundraising campaigns or development initiatives.
Familiarity with community-based nonprofit organizations and mission-driven work.
Ability to analyze funding opportunities and align them with organizational priorities.

Work Environment

This position may require occasional evening or weekend attendance at fundraising events, meetings, or community functions.

Pay: $72,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
