Job Purpose
SXSW seeks an individual to design and produce engaging, branded visual assets in various media while meeting deadlines. Excellent time management, graphic design, typographic, and project management skills, plus the ability to work independently, are required for this position. The candidate should be able to work between print and digital formats, as well as small and large-scale projects, and be willing to tackle a variety of production assignments.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design and produce print and digital media assets using established Brand Guidelines
- Route all designs through internal stakeholders for approval
- Coordinate all aspects of the design process from info gathering to final file delivery
- Work with existing design templates to produce a large volume of work in various sizes, including large-format wayfinding signage.
- Work with existing design templates to produce advertising and marketing materials.
- Prepare files for print, meticulously ensuring each file will print as intended (as press checks are not always possible, and time is of the essence)
- Collaborate with other designers and teams on new initiatives
- Work with various SXSW departments to fulfill requests for specific projects
- Contribute to team effort by taking on additional production projects as bandwidth allows
On-Site Responsibilities
- Liaise between the Experience Design team and SXSW staff as necessary
- On-call for any Experience-Design team needs
- Support the Signage Team with physical signage deliveries, sign deployment, and other signage tasks as needed.
- Work required on-site shifts
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven graphic design experience
- A degree in design and related fields is a plus
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. After Effects skills are a plus
- Design efficiency, flexibility & time management skills
- Strong typographic skills, including a keen eye for typographical errors
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy; meticulous
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to work well both independently and with the team
- Proficiency in Google Suite
- Knowledge of Airtable, JotForm, WebDam (Digital Asset Management), and FileMaker is a plus

- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally, as needed.
- Operation of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.
- May require occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, or climbing stairs.
- Must be willing to go between various downtown venues, with or without assistance.

Work Location & Schedule
The position is a Seasonal Full-time and is located in Austin, Texas. Core business office hours are from 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. You must be available to work additional hours from January through March, including evenings and weekends. You must also be available for the March event, which will have extended working hours on-site.
