Summary
The Plastic Laboratory Engineer assures that all testing performed in the Mechanical Testing Laboratory complies with the ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. This includes Method Validation, Proficiency Testing, coordinating MSA studies, and Training programs. This role is also responsible for troubleshooting and resolving lab technical issues, creating standards, method development, and assisting with lab audits. This is a customer-facing role, responsible for ensuring positive outcomes for our customers, with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Provides technical support to both internal (PDEs/QMs) and external (UCC/SPI reporting) customers specific to mechanical testing standards and issues
- Responsible for developing test methods and related Work Instructions to satisfy compliance to ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Assists in performing MSA studies for the Mechanical Testing Laboratory to satisfy corporate compliance to the defined management system requirements.
- Facilitates and provides the necessary training for laboratory personnel.
- Performs specialty testing needs as requested by members of Technology and Quality.
- Serves as a resource for standards interpretation for other Audia companies and personnel.
- Reviews applicable processes, work instructions, molding recipes, and test methods for compliance.
- Coordinates measurement system analysis studies (for example, Gage R&R)
- Coordinates proficiency testing and round-robin studies for the Mechanical Testing Laboratory.
- Works with the Laboratory Technical Manger in meeting the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
- Serves as backup for all laboratory positions including: Technicians, Laboratory Technical Manager, and Laboratory Supervisor.
- Opportunity to refine injection molding capabilities.
- Performs other duties and assignments as directed by the supervisor.
- Manage and review calibration and maintenance scheduling with software (M-Pulse).
Recommended Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of Laboratory experience is preferred.
- Must be able to travel to Customer sites, Vendors, and between WPP divisions.
- Trained in the operation and theory of testing equipment and laboratory techniques is preferred
- Intermediate to advanced computer software skills preferred (i.e. statistical analysis with query/pivot tables, word-processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and statistical programs).
