We are seeking an experienced, local Art Advisor who is passionate about sales and driven to provide exceptional client service to work weekends in our busy gallery.
Sorrel Sky Gallery is a national, prestigious high-end gallery. Since 2002, when we opened our original gallery in Durango, we have been an integral part of the local arts community, representing local, national, and international top artists. We are committed to fostering a vibrant art scene and connecting collectors with exceptional works of art. Our clientele consists of discerning collectors from around the globe.
The Opportunity: Art Advisor

In this role, you will assist clientele in making art selections and creating a seamless experience from purchase through to installation. Working as part of the Sorrel Sky team, you will be involved in planning special events, creating a welcoming environment, problem-solving, and ensuring outstanding customer service. You will be a key player in achieving gallery sales goals and building lasting relationships with our valued clients.
Work Schedule: 2 to 3 days per week, to include weekends. Typical Hours: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional days/hours as needed to cover for other associates and/or for special events.
Compensation is a base pay plus commission.
Key Responsibilities
● Collaborate directly with the Gallery Manager to ensure the success of the Gallery location.
● Warmly greet all visitors and provide attentive service to facilitate sales. ● Communicate effectively with represented artists ● Answer phones and successfully close phone sales.
● Guide clients through the complete sales process: identifying serious buyers, closing sales, processing payments, coordinating shipments, and conducting follow-up.
Daily Activities:
● Cultivate productive and long-term relationships with clientele.
● Achieve established sales goals and proactively suggest ways to increase gallery sales.
● Team up with co-workers to ensure proper customer service and a cohesive team environment. ●
Process purchases accurately using the POS system.
● Display inventory in a creative and compelling way to enhance the gallery experience.
● Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current exhibitions, upcoming events, and represented artists.
● Represent the gallery in a professional and knowledgeable manner while conducting sales at exhibitions and events.
● Work with the Gallery Manager to discover targets for private and public institutional acquisitions of art, and develop plans for outreach and submissions of work for consideration.
● Develop strong relationships with interior designers and art consultants.
● Effectively use inventory management system to locate inventory
● Effectively schedule and manage deliveries, shipments and installations
● Maintain order and cleanliness throughout the gallery.
● Assist staff with other duties as needed to support overall gallery operations.
Qualifications
● A minimum of two years’ experience in sales in a fine art/ luxury retail location or similar performance based industry.
● Bachelor’s degree in art, business, or a related field preferred.
● Proficient working with technology, including social media.
● Highly organized, with the ability to track multiple priorities simultaneously and pivot as business needs require.
● Ability to perform under pressure, prioritize, and address issues in a timely manner.
● Strong knowledge of Mac Platform.
● Solid understanding of customer service best practices.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Availability to work flexible hours including weekends, some holidays, and for shows and events.
● A high level of business and personal integrity.
