Overview
Polymath Robotics is creating software that can safely control all of the world's industrial vehicles, and we’re looking for a Applications Engineer to join our team. We’re a close-knit group, each of us experts in our fields, working to bring autonomous vehicles to various industries quickly. We believe this moment in robotics and autonomy is as groundbreaking as the PC industry of the 80s, and we need your help.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with prospective clients to align expectations and ensure our features cover their use cases.
- Work closely with engineering and DevOps teams to ensure requirements are communicated between clients, our teams, and integrator teams
- Contribute to our work in ROS2, filling in the gaps and enhancing our architectural framework whenever possible
- Finding common features wherever possible across client use cases.
- Learn about, engage with, and educate customers on various areas of robotics including perception, controls, behavior, path planning, obstacle detection, tracking, and avoidance. Be the engineer who knows what we can/can’t do, and how to align that with customer goals.
- Prepare technical proposals that address customer requirements, and track progress of the project according to the proposal
- Maintain high ownership of your work, witnessing firsthand the impact of your planning and code on customer vehicles performing real tasks
- Travel is a part of the job, both for sales meetings and onsite technical support, though we try to minimize it as an organization
- Assist in customizing products or solutions to fit specific customer requirements. Being able to rapidly spin up demo-level code for conferences or presentations is a nice-to-have.
Qualifications
- Expertise in one or more of the following: C++, Python, ROS/ROS2, machine vision, modern software development, and systems architecture.
- Previous experience working on robots or other autonomous systems.
- A passion for high ownership of work and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to learn about and contribute anywhere on the stack as needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, along with a passion for working with client teams and seeing their projects succeed.
Why Join Polymath Robotics?
- Collaborative Environment: Work alongside fantastic team members on collaborative projects
- Hybrid Workplace: Enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work model, with engineering based in our SF Mission office three days a week, giving a good balance of maker time and synchronization time.
- Open Source Advocacy: We strongly support open-source robotics efforts, allowing your work to be shareable and publishable whenever possible.
- Humor & Passion: We might occasionally be a bunch of rosbags, but our passion and humor drive us to accelerate the realization of autonomous vehicles in the industry.
Application Process
Interested candidates are invited to submit their resume, and optionally a cover letter detailing their experience and interest in the role, and any relevant portfolio or project links.
