We are seeking a sharp and driven Assistant Controller to support financial reporting, internal controls, and technical accounting for a business that delivers mission-critical infrastructure under long-term service contracts. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this role offers significant visibility with senior leadership and a clear path to broader finance leadership. Ideal candidates will bring strong US GAAP and ASC expertise, experience leading close processes, and a passion for process optimization in a regulated services environment.
Our client is a rapidly growing and very profitable water infrastructure services provider in the Municipal and Industrial Water sectors. They offer a complex and diverse portfolio of products and services that have served the potable and industrial water industries for nearly 60 years.
Essential Job Functions include:
- Lead the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Analyze and apply complex ASC guidance including ASC 606 (revenue), ASC 842 (leases), ASC 805 (business combinations), and ASC 470/815 (debt and derivatives).
- Develop accounting policies, position papers, and financial disclosures to support transparency and compliance.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Enhance and maintain a strong internal control environment in collaboration with audit and compliance teams.
- Coordinate external audits and support regulatory readiness initiatives including SOX/SSAE compliance.
- Recommend and implement improvements to financial systems, close cycles, and operational reporting.
- Leverage internal tools like Oracle Cloud ERP and Power BI for improved automation and insight.
QUALIFICATIONS include:
- BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or Business with Accounting focus; MBA is a plus.
- Certified Public Account (CPA) certification strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of accounting and business experience in the areas of accounts payable, cash projections, inventory, taxes, and fixed assets in a corporate or private equity environment.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of GAAP financial accounting, ASC, IRS, international reporting, SEC requirements, and IFRS.
- Experience using Oracle ERP or another large ERP system and Power BI.
- Industry exposure to utilities, construction, or government is a plus.
- Understand how to use analytical results to support alternative recommendations and drive projects to positively impact the business.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and multi-task in a fast-paced environment while being self-motivated to learn new concepts.
- Stellar written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize ideas and data clearly and concisely in a persuasive, organized and appropriate manner to both finance and non-finance business unit leaders and executive leadership team.
- Advanced PC skills including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
- This tole will be a hybrid schedule, in office 3 days per week, once onboarding is completed.
