FLYMOTION is seeking a Lead Engineer / Engineering Team Lead to oversee a multidisciplinary team developing advanced robotics, drone platforms, and tactical technology systems. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight across multiple engineering fields including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering disciplines.The ideal candidate is a systems-minded engineer who thrives in fast-paced, constantly evolving environments—someone who can balance design reviews with field deployment, manage shifting priorities, and drive execution under tight timelines. You will coordinate efforts between engineering domains, ensuring that concepts rapidly mature into reliable, field-proven solutions.This position requires both technical depth and leadership presence. You’ll guide a small but high-performing team from design to deployment—defining standards, mentoring engineers, and maintaining accountability for technical excellence and operational readiness. You will also ensure that the engineering team fulfills manufacturing needs for customer orders of FLYMOTION products, supporting on-time delivery and quality assurance from prototype to production.
Core Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead a cross-functional engineering team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers.
- Set priorities, delegate tasks, and manage timelines in a highly dynamic, rapid-iteration environment.
- Foster collaboration and accountability across disciplines, balancing innovation with disciplined execution.
- Conduct design reviews and create and maintain systems for documentation and sustainability.
- Oversee coordination between design, production, and integration teams to fulfill manufacturing needs for customer orders of FLYMOTION products.
- Mentor engineers through technical challenges and professional development.
Systems Design & Integration:
- Drive full-system integration of electrical, mechanical, and software components for drones, robotics, and tactical systems.
- Translate high-level operational needs into clear engineering requirements.
- Oversee architecture and interface design to ensure seamless interaction between hardware and firmware.
- Validate systems through lab testing, simulation, and field evaluation.
- Transition designs into manufacturable assemblies, ensuring alignment between engineering intent and production capability.
Program Execution & Field Operations:
- Adapt quickly to shifting priorities, managing concurrent projects with varying technical scopes.
- Coordinate closely with project managers and leadership to align engineering output with company goals.
- Support live demonstrations, field deployments, and training operations.
- Serve as the engineering point of contact for field troubleshooting and customer-facing technical support.
- Support fulfillment of manufacturing requirements for customer-specific builds, ensuring all systems meet FLYMOTION’s production and quality standards before delivery.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and integrate emerging technologies to enhance capability, performance, and reliability.
- Refine development workflows, prototype validation processes, and design documentation practices.
- Implement feedback loops between engineering, manufacturing, and operations to continuously improve product quality and production efficiency.
- Contribute to strategic planning and resource allocation for upcoming projects and new initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering (or related field).
- 2+ years of engineering experience with exposure to multiple disciplines (hardware, software, or systems).
- Demonstrated success leading or coordinating small technical teams.
- Strong understanding of system-level design, prototyping, and integration.
- Ability to thrive under short development cycles and shifting priorities.
- Hands-on mindset with experience in both office and field environments.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred:
- Experience with drones, robotics, or unmanned systems.
- Familiarity with embedded electronics, mechanical integration, and software control systems.
- Proficiency in CAD, PCB design tools, and/or firmware development environments.
- Background in EMI/EMC, RF systems, or telemetry.
- Prior experience in defense, public safety, or high-stakes operational environments.
- Understanding of production processes, supply chain coordination, and quality control for small-scale manufacturing.
- Strong leadership instincts paired with a willingness to be hands-on in the field.
