The Mental Illness Recovery Center (MIRCI) is a progressive nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting individuals, adults, and youth experiencing homelessness through clinical services and permanent housing solutions. As we continue expanding opportunities for the homeless community across the Midlands and surrounding areas, MIRCI is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our leadership team.
Job Function:
Under limited supervision and reporting to the CEO, develops, directs, and evaluates the accounting system of Mirci, and coordinates and oversees all business aspects of the agency, including but not limited to administering the agency's information technology systems and insurance coverage.
Employee Classification:
Considered a professional, exempt position that is regular full-time.
Guidelines for Distinguishing Characteristics:
Responsible for the financial and administrative activities for the agency. Responsible for direct supervision of Senior Accountant and Bookkeeper.
Examples of Work:
- Coordinates the agency's accounting systems, including Mirci's financial records and the Supportive Housing Program records.
- Prepares or reviews the preparation of periodic and special financial reports for internal and external agency requirements, including monthly financial reporting for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Ensures accurate documentation of all financial transactions and the timely payment and receipt of all agency funds.
- Maintains procedures for allocation of direct expenditures and administrative costs to program areas and funding sources.
- Maintains the invoicing system and ensures the collection of accounts receivable.
- Provides historical financial data, and with input from the senior management team of Mirci, develops annual budgets, along with revised budgets periodically, for approval by the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Supervises or prepares the accounting of grants or special contracts. This includes the development of grant budgets, grant reporting/compliance oversight.
- Coordinates and oversees the external audits for the agency, including the overall agency financial audit, and 4 single-purpose HUD property audits, all of which are subject to the federal single audit act.
- Performs and/or coordinates internal audits of Mirci and HUD property financial records, including but not limited to the supportive housing financial records.
- Overall supervision of human resources, ensuring payroll record compliance, accurate employee payroll processing submissions, reporting, and payment with state and federal agencies regarding employer payroll taxes, and coordinating with the outsourced payroll company.
- Oversee annual review and renewal of employee benefits and agency general liability, property, and auto insurances.
- Oversee maintenance of property and equipment inventory tracking.
- Coordinates IT system needs and maintenance.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles, theories,and practices of accounting and financial management.
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting, and the related federal and state statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to non-profits.
- Knowledge of payroll taxes and reporting.
- Limited knowledge of deferred compensation plan and required reporting.
- Knowledge of fiscal and budgetary processes.
- Knowledge of IT systems, and ability to utilize various Windows software, including but not limited to Business Works, Excel, Quickbooks, Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of administrative policy and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to interpret and analyze financial data and reports.
- Ability to manage professional and support staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Minimum Requirements:
CPA designation and/or a combination of accounting and managerial experience.
