About the role
Our customers are busy contractors, manufacturers, and shippers who keep America running. They’ve been neglected by traditional financial technology companies and banks because it’s a sector that has been incredibly hard to underwrite and manage risk for, but is now possible due to advances in open banking and AI.
At Nickel, we’ve rebuilt payment infrastructure as close as possible to the bare metal in order to provide the best possible experience for our customers.
Engineers work on all parts of the stack in order to support our customers and have an immense amount of impact and scope. You’ll be joining a world class engineering team that supports financial products that directly move over a billion dollars through in house payment rails. We believe that any single engineer can and should have an immense amount of responsibility. What you’ll do
- Build and maintain financial infrastructure: Nickel provides a best in class payments experience for our customers on rails we’ve built from the ground up to support the payment needs of this sector. You’ll get direct experience working on, expanding, and maintaining a performant, scalable and maintainable piece of payments infrastructure.
- Build next generation financial products: The roadmap is filled with exciting AI enabled financial products that are going to redefine this industry. You’ll get a chance to be on the frontier of cutting edge financial products that will drastically improve how this industry transacts.
- Own data infrastructure: Build out important data infrastructure and data pipelines such that go-to-market, engineering, and product are on the same page and can accurately track and make increasingly data informed decisions.
- Build models to directly prevent financial fraud and abuse: Work directly with the founders to decide what problems are worth solving today. Craft the vision and scope for future products that will 100x the business
- Shape engineering culture and practices: As an early engineering hire you’ll be able to directly contribute to and influence engineering culture and practices.

What you’ll need
- 2+ years of experience as a software engineer at a technology company, preferably in a web development role
- A strong sense of responsibility, ownership, and a high bar for the code and systems you build
- An obsession with providing an amazing experience to customers
- An extremely high level of autonomy and an entrepreneurial mindset
- High agency and the ability to dissect, scope and tackle ambiguous problems
- A team player attitude
