An established, employee-owned environmental consultancy is seeking a Project-Level Restoration Engineer to support and grow its ecological restoration practice across North Carolina and the Southeast, with additional involvement in projects nationwide.
This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in stream, wetland, and living shoreline restoration, applied hydraulics, and geomorphology. The position offers hybrid or fully remote working within the Charlotte metro area and the chance to work on meaningful, science-driven environmental projects.
The role can be hired at Assistant or Associate level depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on level, responsibilities may include:
- Supporting or leading engineering design for stream, wetland, and coastal restoration projects
- Developing ecological restoration construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Conducting hydraulic, hydrologic, and water quality modelling (e.g. HEC-RAS)
- Participating in fieldwork including site assessments, geomorphic evaluations, and construction observation
- Collaborating with project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget
- Supporting safety planning and field safety practices
- Mentoring junior engineers (Associate level)
- Managing small to medium-sized tasks or projects with increasing autonomy
Occasional travel (up to 25%) is required for site visits and client meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Biological, Agricultural, or Coastal)
- EI certification
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in ecosystem or restoration design
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D for construction plans
- Experience using hydraulic and hydrologic modelling software (HEC-RAS or similar)
- Willingness to travel short-term for fieldwork
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence
- 5+ years’ experience in ecological or restoration engineering
- Experience leading tasks or managing small projects
- Experience mentoring junior staff
