Job Description – Research Engineer

Role - In this engineering role you will be part of a team that conducts large-scale industrial research on mass transfer devices aimed at reducing the energy and capital consumption of separation processes in the chemical, petrochemical, environmental, gas processing and refining industries.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
The engineer in this role will be responsible for:
- Contribute to the development and execution of research programs that are requested by the FRI consortium members.
- Analyzing the experimental results, developing models, writing reports and communicating the findings to the FRI consortium members.
- Assisting programmers in implementing new mathematical models describing the performance of mass transfer equipment.
- Applying critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to work independently or in a team-oriented environment.
- Working closely with the staff at the pilot plants to ensure that high-quality data sets are generated.
- Exploring new and emerging technologies through literature surveys and systematic studies.
- Contributing to environmental, health and safety excellence.
Requirements:
- A degree in chemical or mechanical engineering (advanced degrees preferred).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a non-academic setting.
- Proven experience of having conducted relevant research.
- Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of distillation and other mass transfer operations, as well as knowledge of the equipment used in these processes.
- Successfully developed first-principles mathematical models.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
- Permanent authorization to work in the USA.
- Ability to regularly climb stairs up to 80 feet above ground level without a fear of heights.
- Entering OSHA regulated confined spaces without getting claustrophobic.
- Be able to lift 50 pounds.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Process safety and operations experience
- Thorough understanding of hydraulics and mass transfer fundamentals
- Correlation and model development
- Knowledge of process control and computing
