Chip Ganassi Racing is seeking a motivated, adaptable automotive engineer to support a major passenger vehicle R&D program in Ohio. This is an on-site role with involvement in programming, automotive data systems, vehicle instrumentation and test support. The successful candidate will work across multiple engineering functions and integrate directly with large OE engineering teams. Improving workflow, providing hands-on test support and building software tools to solve immediate problems are key responsibilities.
As An Automotive Test Engineer, Your Key Responsibilities Include
- On-site embedded engineering support of OE passenger vehicle manufacturer
- Programming and development of engineering tools, primarily using Python and Excel macros
- Support of automotive instrumentation systems, including hardware and software setup, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Automotive communications support with emphasis on CAN bus systems, including CAN analysis and reverse engineering
- Preparation of summaries and presentations using MS PowerPoint and MS Teams
- Collaboration with OE engineers to identify technical needs and propose solutions
- Data management responsibilities including database interaction, data organization, validation, cleanup, and basic database programming
- Support of vehicle and component test engineering, including planning, execution, data review, and documentation
- Assistance with development, improvement, and documentation of engineering processes and workflows
- Troubleshooting technical issues across software, hardware, data, and test systems
To Be Successful In This Role, You’ll Need
- 2-3 years of experience in a relevant engineering or technical environment
- Demonstrated programming experience with proficiency in Python and Excel macros/VBA
- Experience with automotive data acquisition systems and vehicle instrumentation
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a large team - excellent communication skills
- Working knowledge of CAN bus communications; experience with CAN analysis or reverse engineering strongly preferred - Vector, ETAS/INCA, Ipetronik, Intrepid Systems and Kvaser are used
- Experience with data management concepts, including structured databases and basic database programming
- Ability and initiative to lead a project - gathering requirements, proposing planning, executing and delivering solution to meet project objectives
- Understanding of engineering test methods including planning, execution, and results reporting
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems using logical, structured approaches
- Proficiency in PowerPoint with ability to clearly and concisely present technical information to project management and executive groups
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- Solid software experience including Python, MS Office tools, and Excel macro development
- Broad understanding of automotive technologies with a passion to learn through hands on testing and development support
