About the Role We are supporting a leading organization in the supply chain and logistics industry that operates large, complex warehouse and distribution environments. They are seeking an Industrial Engineer to support warehouse facility design, operational efficiency, and material flow optimization across multiple customer locations. This role partners closely with central engineering teams and account teams to improve warehouse layouts, equipment utilization, labor planning, and standard operating procedures. The position also leads large-scale process improvement initiatives involving Lean methodologies, WMS modifications, and cross-functional collaboration.
Job Description The Industrial Engineer will design operational solutions and develop capabilities that enhance warehouse and distribution strategies. Key activities include data collection and analysis, facility layout design, material flow evaluation, staffing assessments, and development of engineered labor standards. The role performs production studies, evaluates equipment and automation needs, documents operational processes, and supports enterprise-level supply chain initiatives. This position works with warehouse teams, material flow groups, and leadership to create efficient, scalable solutions for complex warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities Business Optimization
- Document current state operations, identify failure points, develop should-cost models, and create engineered labor standards
- Develop and implement warehouse design standards, automation strategies, and material distribution solutions
- Analyze facility design requirements based on activity levels, dimensional data, product flows, and transportation methods
- Lead production time studies, headcount analyses, downtime evaluations, efficiency improvement plans, slotting studies, and SKU velocity analyses
- Identify bottlenecks, enhance material flow, and optimize inbound, outbound, and inventory operations
- Conduct value stream mapping, process improvements, and standardization across multiple customer sites
- Partner with vendors to identify operational equipment and automation solutions
Consultation & Customer Support
- Provide industry insights regarding market trends, operational pressures, and competitive practices
- Collaborate with warehouse departments, cross-functional account teams, and shared services groups to deliver integrated operational solutions
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work or military experience
- Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
- Fluent English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Background aligning with manager’s priority: experience in distribution center or warehouse operational setup, labor management, and material handling equipment
Preferred
- Experience in warehouse or facility maintenance and safety
- Third-party logistics industry experience
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and task-prioritization capabilities
- Lean or Six Sigma experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Experience with warehouse modeling or simulation software
