Tech Lead – AI Platform

The RoleWe're looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to drive the design, development, and delivery of both our AI platform and core engineering infrastructure. You'll lead a blended team of AI and general software engineers, set the technical direction across both tracks, and stay deeply involved in the code — this is not a purely managerial role. A key part of your mission is to champion AI-assisted development practices across the entire engineering org. You'll work closely with developers, product, research, and business stakeholders to turn ambitious ideas into production-grade systems.
What You'll Do
Technical Leadership
- Own architecture and technical roadmap across the AI platform and core backend/infrastructure teams, staying hands-on across the full stack
- Evaluate and adopt emerging AI/ML technologies; set engineering standards for reliability, security, and scalability
AI-Augmented Development
- Standardize AI-assisted dev tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) org-wide and build review guardrails for AI-generated code — covering hallucinations, security risks, and performance issues
- Define prompt engineering best practices for dev contexts and track velocity improvements via meaningful metrics
Cross-Team Efficiency
- Reduce friction across AI, backend, product, and design teams through AI tooling and shared engineering standards that keep all teams interoperable
- Translate business requirements into clear, actionable technical plans
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and grow a blended team of AI and software engineers — owning hiring, onboarding, code reviews, and career development
- Travel to Irvine, CA as needed
Requirements
- Mandarin (普通话) proficiency — required for cross-team communication
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead or senior engineering role
- Deep understanding of AI/ML fundamentals — model architectures, training pipelines, inference optimization, prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, etc.
- Solid grasp of the modern AI landscape and ability to rapidly evaluate emerging trends
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD)
- Proficiency with modern backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI, Node.js, Django, or similar)
- Strong engineering fundamentals: distributed systems, API design, data pipelines, system scalability
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium, or similar); ability to evaluate and standardize tooling across an engineering org and demonstrated ability to review and optimize AI-generated code
Nice to Have
- Experience at a top-tier tech company (FAANG, major AI lab, or equivalent) — strongly preferred
- Exposure to product-led AI development — building AI features that ship to end users, not just research prototypes
- Prior startup or high-growth environment experience
Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
