Forbes is seeking a highly creative, strategic, and editorially-minded Social Strategist to help translate the full Forbes ecosystem into compelling, social-first storytelling. Reporting to the Director of Social Strategy & Programming, this role will be instrumental in identifying opportunities across Forbes proprietary assets — including editorial video, lists, live events, article content, franchises, and partnerships — and adapting them into platform-native formats that resonate deeply with social audiences. This role goes beyond publishing. We are looking for a social storyteller and strategist who understands how to maintain the authority, prestige, and editorial standards of Forbes while packaging content in ways that feel native, dynamic, and deeply engaging on Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. The ideal candidate is an expert in identifying strong hooks, shaping rollout strategies, and giving actionable creative feedback that elevates social performance without compromising editorial integrity.
Our office operates as a remote and hybrid workforce, with in-person collaboration expected for certain roles. Based on the responsibilities of this position, a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of one in-person collaboration day per week at our Jersey City, NJ headquarters is expected.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify opportunities within the Forbes ecosystem (editorial video, lists, live events, article content, newsletters, franchises, branded programs) and determine how they can be adapted into social-first touchpoints, series, and story arcs.
- Review interviews and long-form video to identify moments with high social potential and shape them into scalable, repeatable formats.
- Lead social-first ideation, developing repeatable video and static series that balance platform behavior with Forbes voice, authority, and editorial standards.
- Strategize the adaptation and reframing of existing Forbes assets into platform-native formats, including short-form vertical video, serialized static franchises, carousels, quote adaptations, explainers, and interview extensions.
- Translate high-level social strategy into daily publishing, distribution, and programming decisions.
- Identify and craft strong hooks, framing devices, and packaging strategies that maximize reach and engagement while reinforcing brand equity.
- Plan and execute intentional social rollouts for major Forbes lists, events, franchises, covers, and tentpole editorial moments — from pre-launch momentum to post-launch amplification.
- Collaborate closely with Editorial, Video, Design, Live Events, and Branded teams to ensure social strategy is embedded early.
- Provide clear, strategic, and constructive creative feedback on social content — including pacing, framing, captioning, hook strength, editing choices, and packaging — to continuously improve performance.
- Create and publish daily social content, including static feed posts and select social video assets, applying light editing and polish when needed.
- Track performance metrics and apply insights to refine content strategy, improve hooks and storytelling, and inform future social experimentation.
The ideal candidate
- Has 2+ years of experience managing and programming social accounts for a media company, publication, entertainment brand, or consumer brand.
- Is deeply fluent in Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, with a strong understanding of platform behavior, audience psychology, and content packaging.
- Has a strong point of view on what makes a compelling hook and can quickly identify why something will or will not work on social.
- Demonstrates the ability to transform traditional editorial assets into dynamic, social-native content that still reflects brand authority.
- Thinks in series and scalable formats — not just one-off posts — and understands how to build repeatable social franchises.
- Is highly editorially minded, able to maintain the Forbes voice and tone while making content feel conversational and accessible.
- Is confident giving clear, actionable creative feedback to producers, editors, designers, and cross-functional partners.
- Is comfortable ideating social-first concepts, series, and interview questions, and contributing creatively to new formats and franchises.
- Understands how to build and roll out a cohesive social strategy around major tentpoles, avoids treating content/posts as isolated moments.
- Is organized, decisive, and audience-first, with the ability to manage high volumes of content and make strong judgment calls in a fast-paced environment.
- Uses performance data to evaluate hooks, framing, format, and storytelling decisions — and can translate insights into improved creative output.
- Has hands-on experience utilizing Adobe Premier Pro, Capcut, Photoshop, or Canva for creating content, including static feed posts and light video edits or polish, and understands how to elevate assets for social distribution.
To be considered for this role, applicants must include a portfolio or work samples demonstrating social media content creation, account management, and strategy. This may include social accounts managed, feed curation examples, and select examples of social-first static or video content.
The annual base salary range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000
