Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) is a Hispanic-owned infrastructure engineering and scientific consulting firm headquartered in Chicago. Since 2002, SPC has delivered environmental, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and engineering services to public and private sector clients.
SPC is seeking a motivated Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team in Hoffman Estates. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Project Managers and senior technical staff to lead and support geotechnical investigations and construction services that align with client objectives and project priorities.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of SPC’s expanding geotechnical services as a developing department within a fast-growing consulting firm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and execute subsurface investigations
- Lead and perform fieldwork such as logging borings, documenting site conditions, coordinating drilling activities, and overseeing field testing
- Analyze geotechnical data and support evaluations
- Prepare and review geotechnical reports
- Identify and troubleshoot field and laboratory issues
- Serve as a point of contact for contractors, clients and internal project teams during investigations
- Maintain accurate project documentation including logs, field reports, daily summaries, and chain-of-custody records
- Support project management activities such as scheduling, task coordination, and budget tracking
- Assist with proposal development, scope writing, and technical expertise
- Mentor and provide guidance to entry-level engineers and field staff
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory compliance on all projects
- Perform other duties as needed
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 5-8 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering
- 3 years in a project management role
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, site characterization, and geotechnical laboratory testing
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Solid reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Proven self-starter, highly motivated, sets aggressive goals
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
