About The Opportunity
As a Software Engineer I on the Access Requests team, you will join one of Okta's fastest-growing product lines supporting our expanding federal customer base. You will own features end-to-end, working with a high degree of autonomy on a high-performance team that moves fast and ships often. We're looking for curious, brilliant engineers who are hungry to learn, eager to build, and excited about the cutting edge of AI and modern software development.
As an engineer on the Access Requests team, you will:
- Own features from technical design through implementation and launch, with support from senior engineers
- Write high-quality, full-stack JavaScript code with a focus on reliability and performance
- Participate in on-call rotations to support our federal customers and learn the system deeply
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (PMs, designers, QA) to understand requirements and deliver solutions
- Embrace test-driven development, code reviews, and production monitoring as core practices
- Troubleshoot production issues using observability tools like Datadog
- Experiment with AI-powered development tools and workflows - we're building the future of how software gets made
- Contribute to team culture by being open, collaborative, and always learning
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- 0-2 years of software development experience (internships, bootcamps, and personal projects count)
- Familiarity with JavaScript and web development fundamentals
- Exposure to backend concepts (APIs, databases, async processing)
- A proven ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies
- Curiosity about AI technologies and how they're changing software development
- Strong collaboration skills and openness to feedback
- Must be federally eligible to support monitoring our federal customer base
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Node.js/Express or React
- Familiarity with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases
- Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), containers, or CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, Splunk)
- Personal projects or contributions that demonstrate initiative and passion for building

- This position requires the ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data. Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in San Francisco Bay Area. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $115,000—$158,400 USD
