As a
Db2 for z/OS engineer (Systems Engineer Lead or Consultant), in our Enterprise Database Services team, you'll support and maintain enterprise Db2 environments by upgrading and migrating Db2 subsystems to supported versions and regularly applying required PTFs and APARs to ensure security and stability. You'll install, upgrade, and support Db2-related ISV (third-party) products, execute and manage offline Db2 utilities, and monitor Db2 threads, tablespaces, and index spaces to drive optimal performance and availability. You'll proactively monitor Db2 instances, take ownership of issue resolution and escalation, and perform performance tuning at both the database and SQL levels. You'll plan and execute controlled Db2 subsystem recycles, manage image copies and backup/recovery processes, support disaster recovery configurations, and collaborate closely with application teams to diagnose and resolve Db2 system, software, and database issues while working as part of a high-performing mainframe team.
This is a remote position for US based work only. Participation in on call rotation required. Occasional travel may be needed. Able to work assigned schedule subject to Progressive's flexible schedule policies and practices. Able to work variable and flexible hours, such as nights, weekends, and holidays in response to business needs.
Must-have qualifications- Minimum of 7 years related experience working with operating system hardware and/or software components in a large IT environment with many categories of devices, infrastructures and operating systems
- {OR} Associate's degree or higher in an Information Technology discipline, Math or other related field of study and a minimum of 6 years working with operating system hardware and/or software components in a large IT environment with many categories of devices, infrastructures, and operating systems
Preferred Skills- Strong experience with Db2 for z/OS system programming and administration, including performance analysis and tuning for Db2 and SQL
- Solid understanding of SMP/E and its role in Db2 installation, maintenance, and product updates
- Working knowledge of WLM (Workload Manager) and its impact on Db2 performance and workload management
- Experience managing and upgrading Db2-related ISV (third-party) software products
- Experience supporting disaster recovery configurations, including various replication and synchronization technologies; assembler programming skills
Compensation- $135,150 - $184,500/year
- Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to either 40% or 50% (depending on position level) of your eligible earnings based on company performance
