We Are Currently Seeking
A Construction Inspector I to join our team. In this role, you will perform field inspections of civil infrastructure construction including street improvements, water distribution, wastewater & stormwater collection on Capital Improvement Projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications & contracts developed pursuant to City, State and Federal regulations along with other assigned duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Reviews construction project plans and specifications; attends project planning meetings as required.
- Inspects projects for compliance with plans, specifications, and Federal, State, and City standards.
- Performs field inspections to evaluate work performed and materials used; verifies quality of workmanship, as well as quality and quantity of materials, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, estimates, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Performs field tests on construction materials for compliance with technical specifications; inspects utilities, concrete, and asphalt.
- Monitors projects, reviews invoices, and approves construction project progress payments.
- Assists the City Engineer in monitoring performance, schedule, cost, and resolution of field anomalies.
- Maintains and updates project inspection and construction records, including daily project diaries and installation entries; generates reports as needed.
- Performs final project inspections, documents deficiencies, and ensures proper completion of assigned projects.
- Responds to requests for information; provides technical information as authorized; investigates complaints and assists the public within the defined scope of authority.
- Interprets and explains technical specifications, City codes, Federal and State regulations, and related policies and procedures to developers, contractors, property owners, and the public.
- Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance and adheres to the prescribed work schedule to fulfill job responsibilities.

Requirements And Skills
- Materials, methods, equipment, tools, practices and procedures used in public works construction, including streets, gutters, sidewalks, drainage, water and wastewater lines and facilities and related facilities and appurtenances.
- Principles and practices of underground construction including dewatering and chlorine disinfection and sampling and low threat and limited threat dewatering and discharge permits.
- Operation, materials and methods of wastewater collection, water and wastewater treatment, water distribution and construction.
- Principles and practices of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments; use of personal protective equipment and identification of job hazards (e.g. electrical, confined space, sheeting/shoring excavations, traffic, etc.).
- Math & arithmetical calculations.
- Principles and practices of effective customer service.
- Standard business practices such as letter writing, report writing, preparing informational materials in visual formats.
- English language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation and clear, concise writing.
- Traffic Safety methods.
Desirable Skills
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience and education equivalent to 1 year inspection experience within the civil infrastructure engineering design & construction environment manifesting increasing levels of responsibility and authority.
Required Licenses Or Certifications
- Must have a valid eligible Texas Driver License with a good driving record.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
- Must have or be able to obtain within 1 year of hire a TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Majority of Work is performed in a field environment.
- Subject to sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to potentially hostile members of the public is involved.
- Exposure to ambient weather conditions of all types is likely.
