We at Brick are building the control layer for an energy-constrained world — deploying AI to optimize HVAC, industrial systems, and large-scale energy loads across buildings, factories, and data centers.
We’re looking for a Control Engineer / Forward Deployment Engineer to lead on-the-ground deployments of our AI energy optimization platform. This is a high-ownership, field-first role combining BMS/BAS engineering, system integration, and technical program execution.
Role Overview
- You will own deployments end-to-end — from site discovery and system integration to commissioning, validation, and full-scale rollout. You’ll work directly with real-world systems (HVAC, chillers, pumps, production equipment) and act as the bridge between customer operations, field systems, and Brick’s AI/RL platform.
- This is not a desk role — you’ll be in the field, solving real problems, interfacing with equipment, and making systems work.
Key Responsibilities
Deployment & Commissioning
- Lead on-site installation, configuration, and commissioning of BMS/BAS and PLC-integrated systems
- Deploy Brick edge devices (gateways, sensors, submeters) and ensure reliable data + control pathways
- Perform system startup, point-to-point testing, sensor validation, and network integration
- Interface with equipment including AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, and VFDs
System Integration
- Integrate with existing building and industrial systems via:
- Direct hardware integration via BACnet (IP & MS/TP), Modbus, LON
- BMS integration via platforms such as Niagara (Tridium), Siemens, Johnson Controls (Metasys), Honeywell, Delta
- Configure communication networks, device addressing, routing, and control interfaces
- Ensure reliable command execution between Brick’s platform and field devices
Troubleshooting & Optimization
- Diagnose and resolve issues across:
- Controls hardware and wiring
- Communication networks and protocol layers
- Sensor calibration and device faults
- Validate system performance and support optimization of control strategies
- Work alongside internal teams to refine and deploy AI-driven control sequences
Program Ownership (TPM)
- Own hardware & deployment planning, external & internal communications, installation/deployment timelines, milestones, and execution across multiple sites
- Coordinate with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal engineering teams
- Drive pilots (A/B testing, phased rollout) → quantify savings → scale deployments
- Maintain documentation: hardware & deployment memo, wiring diagrams, control logic, commissioning reports, as-builts
Collaboration
- Act as the primary technical interface between:
- Customer facility teams
- Brick software / ML / product teams
- Lead and organize site walkthroughs, technical scoping, and system design decisions
Required Qualifications
Technical Background
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or related field
- — or equivalent hands-on experience in BAS/PLC/SCADA/DCIM systems
Controls & HVAC Expertise
- Strong understanding of:
- BMS/DDC systems, PLCs, and building automation
- HVAC fundamentals (airside + waterside systems, hydronics, refrigeration)
- Control sequences, PID loops, sensors, and field devices
Systems & Networking
- Experience with:
- BACnet, Modbus, LON, IP-based networking
- Device addressing, routing, and communication troubleshooting
- Familiarity with BAS platforms such as:
- Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Delta
Hands-On Skills
- Proven experience in:
- Installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems
- Field-based work in commercial or industrial environments
- Comfortable working with both hardware and software layers
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: Niagara (Tridium), EPA 608, NATE, OSHA
- Experience with industrial facilities, healthcare, or data centers
- Exposure to edge devices, IoT systems, or remote monitoring platforms
- Familiarity with SCADA or DCIM systems
What We’re Looking For
- High ownership mindset — you run the project end-to-end
- Strong problem-solver who thrives in messy, real-world environments
- Ability to operate independently in fast-paced, field-based settings
- Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Work Environment
- Field-based across commercial buildings, factories, hospitals, and data centers
- Frequent travel to deployment sites
- Work in live operational environments requiring adaptability and precision
Why Brick
- Deploy cutting-edge AI / reinforcement learning in real-world infrastructure
- Direct, measurable impact — 20–30%+ energy savings across live sites
- Fast-growing company with strong traction across the U.S. and GCC
- Opportunity to define the future of autonomous building and industrial control systems
- If you’re excited about building and deploying real systems — not just designing them — we’d love to hear from you.
