About the Opportunity
DMI, LLC is seeking a VMware Infrastructure Engineer who will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a highly available, secure, and resilient enterprise virtualization environment supporting our state client. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring operational stability across VMware-based infrastructure platforms, supporting production systems that require strict uptime, security, and disaster recovery standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enterprise Virtualization Management
- Administer and manage large-scale VMware environments, including VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter Server
- Design, configure, and maintain ESXi hosts, clusters, and resource pools
- Optimize virtual infrastructure performance, capacity, and scalability Finish
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Implement high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions aligned to RPO/RTO requirements
- Configure and manage disaster recovery technologies (replication, failover, failback)
- Execute DR testing, failover scenarios, and recovery validation
- Ensure business continuity across critical applications and infrastructure platforms
- Storage Integration & Optimization
- Integrate VMware platforms with enterprise storage (SAN/NAS, vSAN)
- Manage storage provisioning, replication strategies, and performance tuning
- Collaborate with storage teams supporting NetApp, Infinidat, or similar platforms
- Core Infrastructure Services
- Support dependencies including:
- DNS, DHCP, IPAM
- TCP/IP networking and segmentation strategies
- Ensure alignment of virtual infrastructure with enterprise network architecture
- Security & Compliance
- Implement security hardening across:
- Hypervisors (ESXi)
- Management planes (vCenter, admin tools)
- East-west traffic controls within virtual environments
- Support vulnerability remediation and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC-driven scans)
- Maintain adherence to state and enterprise security policies
- Operational Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide Tier 3 support for production-impacting incidents
- Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
- Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours support for critical outages
- Maintain operational documentation and standard operating procedures
- Change Management & Governance
- Execute infrastructure changes in accordance with enterprise change management processes
- Document design decisions, configurations, and implementation steps
- Participate in CAB reviews and ensure minimal risk to production systems
- Support audit requests and regulatory compliance requirements
Qualifications
Education and Years of Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering
- 5+ years of hands-on VMware experience (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi) in large-scale environments
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Deep expertise in:
- VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi administration
- HA/DR architectures (SRM, replication, backup platforms)
- Enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS, vSAN, replication technologies)
- Strong working knowledge of:
- DNS, DHCP, IPAM
- TCP/IP networking, VLANs, and segmentation
- Windows Server and Linux operating systems
- Experience with:
- Backup and recovery tools (e.g., vRanger, Azure Backup or similar)
- Monitoring and performance tuning tools
Preferred Requirements:
- VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP, or equivalent)
- Experience supporting state/local government or regulated environments
- Familiarity with:
- NetApp or enterprise storage platforms
- Cloud integration (AWS, Azure hybrid environments)
- ITIL or comparable operational framework certification
Background Requirements: Must be able to complete a required fingerprint background investigation.
