On-Site Tool Design/CAD Technician

Overview
Great Lakes Custom Tool designs and manufactures high-performance custom cutting tools for the woodworking and metalworking industries. We are currently seeking a Tool Design/CAD Technician to join our Engineering Department. This position involves the layout, design, and detailing of custom tooling and is well-suited for detail-oriented individuals who are passionate about precision, enjoy solving technical challenges, and want to see their designs come to life in a modern manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop cutting tools and tooling components using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (2D/3D)
- Collaborate with key personnel to resolve design and production issues with manufacturing, brazing, and quality teams.
- Produce approval drawings for internal review and customer sign-off.
- Ensure all designs meet quality standards, tolerances and production requirements.
Qualifications
- ERP System, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (2D and 3D) or similar.
- Machining background helpful.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tolerances, and materials used in cutting tools
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to collaborate across teams
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality design
