We are partnering with a leading commercial solar energy developer that is actively expanding its acquisition and development pipeline across distributed generation assets in multiple U.S. markets. The organization is seeking an Associate, Business Development to join its origination and acquisitions function, with a primary focus on evaluating, underwriting, and executing M&A and structured finance transactions within the commercial and community solar space. This role will sit close to senior investment and development leadership and will play a key part in assessing new investment opportunities, refining financial assumptions, and supporting end-to-end deal execution from early-stage screening through diligence and closing.
This role sits within a high-performing origination and acquisitions team and is heavily focused on financial modeling, deal execution, and investment underwriting across early- to mid-stage development and operating assets.
What you’ll do
- Build and maintain project-level and portfolio-level financial models (DCF-based)
- Perform IRR, NPV, MOIC, and DSCR analysis to evaluate acquisition and development opportunities
- Structure and analyze capital stacks, including debt sizing, tax equity considerations, and return optimization
- Lead investment screening, underwriting, and due diligence across active deal flow
- Develop and refine sensitivity and scenario analyses to assess downside risk and key value drivers
- Support investment memos, credit packages, and internal approval materials
- Conduct market research and price forecasting to inform origination strategy
- Manage pipeline tracking tools and ensure accurate deal flow reporting for senior leadership
Skills
- Advanced Excel financial modeling (DCF, scenario and sensitivity analysis)
- Project finance and corporate finance fundamentals
- Investment analysis and underwriting (IRR, NPV, MOIC, DSCR)
- Strong written and verbal communication for investment materials and stakeholder updates
- Ability to manage multiple live deal workstreams in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
- 2–4 years of experience in investment banking, project finance, infrastructure investing, private equity, consulting, or related financial services
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, engineering, renewable energy, or related field
- Hands-on experience building complex financial models from scratch
- Experience with capital stack structuring, debt sizing, and return analysis
- Strong attention to detail with experience supporting due diligence and investment processes
