As AWA continues to grow its publishing business, we are creating a new role focused on book sales, eCommerce, and direct-to-consumer growth. This new position is designed to strengthen day-to-day execution of AWA’s sales channels and build sales across Amazon, Shopify, social commerce, newsletters, bookstores, comic shops, and other opportunities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
AWA is looking for a Manager, Book Sales & eCommerce to help grow sales across our publishing and direct-to-consumer channels. This person will report to the Senior Director of Marketing and will own hands-on execution of AWA’s sales ecosystem, including Amazon, Shopify, sales newsletters, social commerce, sales calendars, and campaign reporting.
We are looking for someone who has done this work before, understands how books and eCommerce channels operate, and can bring organization, consistency, and new ideas to how AWA sells its frontlist and backlist titles. The right person will be proactive, detail-oriented, copy-strong, and comfortable managing the logistics of sales campaigns while also thinking creatively about how to drive revenue.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager, Book Sales & eCommerce will support the day-to-day execution and growth of AWA’s publishing sales channels, with a focus on Amazon, Shopify, direct-to-consumer sales, newsletters, social commerce, and retail campaign support. This role will work closely with the Senior Director of Marketing to organize, execute, and report on sales-driving campaigns across frontlist and backlist titles.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead day-to-day Amazon sales support, including listing audits, A+ content, discoverability, and promotional opportunities.
- Manage and optimize AWA’s owned eCommerce channels, including Shopify product pages, collections, promotions, discount codes, and online merchandising.
- Build and execute sales campaigns for new releases, backlist titles, online store promotions, signed editions, holiday sales, event tie-ins, and preorders.
- Write and coordinate sales-focused newsletters, product copy, retailer copy, and campaign messaging.
- Support social commerce efforts across platforms such as Instagram, Meta Shops, TikTok Shop, and other relevant channels.
- Help create and maintain sales materials for bookstores, Amazon, Simon & Schuster, comic shops, and other sales partners.
- Support direct market and comic shop initiatives, including retailer emails, preorder campaigns, FOC pushes, signings, and special promotions.
- Support AWA convention and event sales initiatives by helping develop sales ideas, organize event promotions, prepare booth materials, support on-site booth sales, and report on performance after events.
- Track and report on sales campaign performance, newsletter performance, paid ads results, web traffic sources, and campaign takeaways, while working closely with AWA operations team to analyze Shopify sales and Amazon activity.
- Bring proactive ideas for improving online sales, product visibility, merchandising, and revenue growth across AWA’s frontlist and backlist.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION
This role will work closely with Marketing, Operations, and Finance, with some collaboration with our Editorial team, as well as working with AWA’s press agency and social media agency to help connect sales goals with broader marketing and communications efforts.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in book sales, eCommerce, publishing, online retail, or direct-to-consumer marketing. They should be comfortable working across sales channels and have a strong understanding of how product listings, copy, newsletters, paid media, and social promotion work together to drive sales.
They should be organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple campaigns at once. This role requires someone who can keep the sales ecosystem moving, spot issues before they become problems, and bring forward ideas.
REQUIRED / PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Strong candidates may bring experience with:
- Shopify and eCommerce management
- Amazon product page optimization and advertising
- MailChimp or similar email marketing platforms
- Meta Business Suite and social commerce tools
- Canva or other basic design tools
- Online merchandising and DTC campaign planning
- Copywriting for product pages, newsletters, and sales campaigns
- Campaign reporting, analytics, and performance tracking
- Paid media campaigns tied to book or product sales
COMPENSATION
The target salary for this full-time role is $60,000-$70,000, depending on experience.
