Role Description The Mechanical Designer role at CAI is a full-time, on-site position located in Fort Eustis, VA. The Mechanical Designer will create and refine technical drawings, models, and mechanical designs that support military systems and related equipment. Day-to-day activities include using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools to develop detailed components and assemblies, collaborating with engineers to ensure designs meet performance and safety requirements, and updating documentation based on test results and stakeholder feedback. The role also involves participating in research and development efforts, reviewing specifications, supporting production planning, and ensuring designs align with applicable standards and guidelines. The Mechanical Designer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and deliverables.
Qualifications
- Strong technical drawing and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills, including the ability to produce accurate 2D and 3D models.
- Proficiency in machine design and mechanical engineering, with an understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and structural analysis.
- Experience in research and development (R&D), including evaluating design concepts, supporting prototype development, and incorporating test feedback into design improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Technology, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Familiarity with defense or aerospace standards and documentation practices is beneficial.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, technical manuals, and regulatory requirements.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in cross-functional teams and present design information clearly.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple design tasks in a fast-paced environment.
