The Seguin Economic Development Specialist plays a vital role in advancing strategic initiatives through departmental coordination, operational administration, and stakeholder engagement that support business attraction, retention, and expansion. Provides administrative, research, and program support to the City of Seguin Economic Development Department and the Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). This role assists with confidential, day-to-day operations of the SEDC and works under the general supervision of the Executive Director. This position will assist with major administrative functions, departmental calendar management, invoicing and purchasing needs, business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts, managing economic research, grant administration, marketing initiatives, public board management, and coordination with internal departments and external stakeholders. The position is ideal for someone detail-oriented, organized, and interested in growing their experience in economic development.
Examples Of Work
Essential Duties*
- Work in partnership with all economic development staff to implement the strategic framework identified within the City of Seguin and SEDC Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
- Provide exceptional public-facing customer service to existing and prospective businesses, community stakeholders, other City department staff, SEDC Board of Directors, and the public.
- Provide administrative support to economic development department & SEDC, including but not limited to: scheduling public and departmental meetings, preparing public and departmental meeting agendas, maintaining records and public meeting minutes, responding to informational requests, tracking Key Performance Indicators, preparing briefing and meeting information, managing departmental calendar of events, maintaining database of available commercial properties, and maintaining contact CRM database.
- Provide financial administrative support to economic development department & SEDC, including but not limited to: budget tracking, submitting purchase orders and invoices, basic financial reporting, incentive compliance preparation, and grant administration assistance.\
- Provide marketing administrative support to economic development department & SEDC, including but not limited to: planning, effecting, and supporting activities related to promotional events, expos, tradeshows, conferences, site visits, tours, and meetings, advertisement and community profile updates, social media productions and promotions, shop local programs, newsletters, website updates, and other branding, business attraction, and workforce efforts.
- Assist in the coordination of various projects and programs, including tracking project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, coordinating with other departments, regional agencies, and external partners, and reporting back on the status of such programs.
- Cultivate relationships with business owners and managers, corporate executives, real estate brokers, and developers for retention and new lead generation purposes
- Represents the City of Seguin and the SEDC on lead generation and marketing activities/events with periodic overnight travel required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of: Basic economic development principles; basic municipal administration; basic business and financial operations.
Demonstrated ability to: Provide responsive, quality customer service when interacting with businesses and the general public; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail and organizational skills; strong ability to manage multiple programs and projects; ability to work independently and as part of a team; operate under the highest standards of transparency and integrity.
Ability to: Utilize standard Microsoft Office software: i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; communicate clearly both verbally and in writing; manage multiple tasks at once, establish and maintain effective working relationships with SEDC Board of Directors, other city employees, officials, regional economic development partners and the general public; handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Acceptable Experience And Training
Associate's degree or equivalent coursework in economics, business administration, public administration, economic development, or a related field;
OR
Minimum of 2 years' full-time work experience in business administration and/or direct customer service.
Prefered And Required Education, Experience, Certifications, And Licenses
Bachelor's degree in related field
OR experience in municipal government, economic development, or community development preferred.
Certificates And Licenses Required
Appropriate Texas driver's license or available alternate means of transportation.
Completion of an IEDC accredited Basic Economic Development Course.
