The Instrumentation Operation Engineer has the responsibility of modification, installation, testing, evaluation, repair, and documentation of airborne test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, as well as the operation and performance of ground support equipment.
Functions - Duties
- Independently performs a range of design, development, analysis, or review tasks under generally established project deadlines
- Performs generally as a lead of a development, sustainment, or operations and maintenance team on more complex engineering assignments
- Generates complete design specifications and analyses and performs design reviews for complex projects
- Coordinates and works closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and meet requirements.
- Verifies and complies with engineering documentation standards and test procedures
- Prepares, delivers, and submits technical papers and performs engineering studies
- Supports development of technical proposals and provides comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work
- Develops, maintains, and produces technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications
- Directly interfaces with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and supports test activities; acts as liaison for design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications
- Conducts site visits and experimental investigations, analyzes engineering problems, proposes solutions and alternatives and provides recommendations
- Performs other position-related duties and assignments as directed
Experience
- Analog and digital electronic fundamentals, familiar with various sensors like strain gauges, accelerometers, and thermal sensors, while also possessing an understanding of digital logic and EU conversions
- Proficiency with the Multi-meter, O-scope, spectrum analyzer, signal generator to accomplish tasks such as checkout, calibration, troubleshooting and repair
- Expertise reading and applying schematics, mechanical drawings, wire diagrams, block diagrams and technical publications
- IRIG 106 Telemetry Standards and TTC hardware/software
- A variety of electrical, instrumentation, and avionics on-aircraft experience including bench testing

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness. Routine travel to remote company work locations may be required. This role necessitates the capability to work in a field environment, encompassing shift work, overtime, travel to remote locations, and frequent exposure to various weather conditions, temperature extremes, drafts, and noise.
REQUIREMENTS
- The candidate must have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution with four years of related engineering experience, or have an accredited Master of Science in Engineering with at least two years of related engineering experience
- Incumbent will be required to qualify for and maintain a government security clearance and must have a valid, current state driver’s license
- Must have or be able to obtain a DOD security clearance
- Must be able to obtain special access
