The Catering Sales Manager serves as a key representative of Four Points by Sheraton San Diego, driving catering and event revenue while delivering warm, efficient, and memorable guest experiences across more than 14,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space. This role focuses on building strong client relationships, generating new business, and coordinating successful events that reflect the property’s service standards and commitment to comfortable, dependable hospitality.
Through proactive sales efforts, thoughtful event planning, and close collaboration with hotel departments, the Catering Sales Manager supports profitable growth, strengthens the hotel’s reputation in the San Diego market, and encourages repeat business and long-term partnerships.
Essential Responsibilities
Sales and Business Development
o Develop and execute sales strategies to identify and secure new catering business opportunities from corporate, social, and other segments.
o Conduct sales calls, site tours, and presentations to prospective clients to showcase the hotel’s catering capabilities and facilities.
o Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, event planners, and other key stakeholders to drive repeat and referral business.
o Prepare detailed and customized catering proposals and contracts, ensuring competitive and profitable pricing.
Client Relationship Management
o Serve as the primary liaison between clients and the hotel, ensuring clear communication and a seamless planning process.
o Conduct thorough needs assessments with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget constraints for events.
o Provide exceptional service throughout the client journey, from initial inquiry to post-event follow-up, to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.
Event Planning and Coordination
o Collaborate with clients to design tailored event experiences, including menu selection, décor, and audiovisual requirements.
o Work closely with the culinary team, banquet staff, and other departments to coordinate all aspects of event execution.
o Oversee event logistics, including setup, execution, and breakdown, ensuring all client specifications are met and events run smoothly.
Operational and Financial Management
o Aid in managing the catering sales budget, including forecasting revenue, controlling costs, and maximizing profitability.
o Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and hotel policies.
Marketing and Promotion
o Assist and provide feedback in development and implement marketing initiatives to promote the hotel’s catering services, including digital campaigns, social media, and participation in local events.
o Represent the hotel at trade shows, bridal fairs, and networking events to generate leads and enhance brand visibility.
Team Leadership and Development
o Provide guidance and training to junior sales staff, Convention Services Manager, banquet teams and event coordinators, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
o Stay informed about industry trends and best practices, sharing insights with the team to continuously improve service delivery.
Inventory Management
- Assist with tracking catering equipment and supply usage related to events
- Communicate upcoming event needs to the appropriate department to support proper stock levels
- Follow established procedures for storage and basic care of catering equipment and materials
Post-Event Space Management
- Coordinate post-event breakdown and room reset with operations teams
- Communicate cleaning and restoration needs to housekeeping and maintenance as appropriate
- Report any post-event issues or damages to leadership for follow-up

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in catering sales, event planning, or a similar role within a hotel or hospitality environment.
- Proficiency in sales and CRM software; knowledge of hotel property management systems is a plus.
- Relevant certifications in hospitality or event planning are advantageous.
