About the Role
EnclaviaAI is seeking an experienced Intelligent Automation Lead to lead the development and delivery of AI-powered automation and decision-support solutions for a federal government client.
In this role, you will oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of an intelligent automation platform that helps federal analysts process large volumes of reports and documents more efficiently. The solution will combine data integration, document intelligence, AI-assisted analysis, workflow automation, and business intelligence dashboards.
You will lead a small team of engineers while working closely with federal stakeholders, including agency IT, security, and business teams. Your focus will be on delivering secure, scalable, and reliable solutions that improve operational efficiency while maintaining human oversight, data protection, and compliance with federal requirements.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who understands both applied AI engineering and the unique challenges of delivering technology in federal environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Solution Architecture: Lead the design of end-to-end intelligent automation solutions covering data ingestion, document processing, AI-assisted decision support, and workflow orchestration.
- Technical Delivery: Plan and manage development in quarterly increments, demonstrating progress to federal stakeholders and ensuring solutions are evaluated and approved before production deployment.
- AI and Document Intelligence: Develop and refine capabilities that extract structured information from unstructured reports and PDF documents, using confidence thresholds and human review workflows to ensure accuracy.
- Intelligent Decision Support: Implement rules-based prioritization, controlled regulatory citation libraries, and AI-assisted document drafting using approved templates and mandatory human review.
- Enterprise Integration: Design secure integrations with existing federal systems of record using data extracts, file transfers, document uploads, and reconciliation processes.
- AI Evaluation and Governance: Establish testing and evaluation processes using held-out datasets. Track precision, recall, error patterns, and model performance while monitoring accuracy and potential drift.
- Responsible AI Implementation: Maintain detailed logs of AI-assisted outputs, including model versions, inputs, generated results, and human reviewer edits. Support incident response and ongoing quality monitoring.
- Federal AI Compliance: Prepare and maintain AI use-case documentation aligned with applicable OMB guidance and federal acquisition requirements. Ensure client data remains within approved environments and is not used to train external models.
- Reporting and Analytics: Develop dashboards that track workload, processing times, aging cases, timeliness, and quality metrics. Provide supporting data for monthly client reporting.
- Development Standards: Establish and maintain standards for source control, code reviews, automated testing, documentation, security, and Section 508 accessibility.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and guide data and automation engineers, coordinate technical priorities, and promote engineering best practices.
- Client Collaboration: Serve as a primary technical point of contact for agency IT and security teams, translating complex technical concepts and evaluation results into clear recommendations and project updates.
Required Qualifications

- At least 3 years of hands-on experience delivering applied AI, natural language processing (NLP), or document intelligence solutions into production.
- Experience developing solutions within FedRAMP-authorized cloud environments or other agency-authorized technology platforms.
- Knowledge of federal security, privacy, and authorization processes.
- Demonstrated experience designing human-in-the-loop workflows, including confidence scoring, review thresholds, and automated routing.
- Experience evaluating AI or machine learning capabilities using independent test datasets, performance metrics, and documented error analysis.
- Experience integrating with legacy systems and file-based data exchange environments where direct API access may be limited.
- Strong technical proficiency in Python, SQL, and REST APIs.
- Experience with business intelligence, dashboards, source control, automated testing, and controlled software releases.
- Working knowledge of federal AI policies and guidance, including OMB guidance and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
- Excellent communication and technical leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with federal grants management, financial oversight, auditing, or regulatory compliance workflows.
- Familiarity with robotic process automation (RPA), optical character recognition (OCR), and large-scale PDF processing.
- Experience implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), document search, or other retrieval-grounded AI applications.
- Experience managing prompts, AI configurations, evaluation datasets, and workflows through version control.
- Cloud or AI certifications from AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Agile delivery certifications or experience leading iterative software development teams.
- Experience with Section 508 accessibility requirements and conformance testing.
