Digital Forensics Examiner
Civil Litigation & Investigations
Forensic Discovery · Downtown Denver, Colorado · Full-time
$75,000–$120,000 annual base salary
Work arrangement: Five days in the office during onboarding, typically about three months. After onboarding, four office days with the option to work from home one day per week once ready.
About the role
Forensic Discovery helps law firms and corporations investigate digital evidence in civil litigation and internal investigations, including suspected data theft and employment disputes.
We're looking for an examiner who can take ownership of an examination, follow the evidence, and explain the findings clearly. After learning our procedures, you'll independently handle routine examinations with peer review and work directly with our forensic team and clients. Prior testimony experience is a plus, not a requirement.
The work
- Collect and preserve evidence. Perform forensic imaging and collections from computers, mobile devices, and cloud accounts within your training and assigned scope. Maintain complete chain-of-custody records and examination notes.
- Troubleshoot and validate. Resolve acquisition and processing issues, validate results, and document how problems were addressed.
- Investigate what happened. Analyze digital artifacts, corroborate findings, and distinguish supported conclusions from assumptions or alternative explanations.
- Write clear reports. Document methods, source references, results, and limitations so clients can understand and rely on your work.
- Own your assignments. Plan examinations, manage deadlines, and record time accurately. Identify missing information, investigate unexpected results, and raise quality, scope, or budget concerns early.
- Communicate clearly. Work professionally with attorneys, client IT teams, and people providing devices or accounts. Explain findings and keep clients and colleagues informed.
- Support testimony. Help prepare supporting materials and, when appropriately qualified, explain your own work in deposition or court.
What you bring
- At least three years of direct digital forensic examination experience. The role is designed around approximately 3–5 years of hands-on casework.
- Independent examination skills. You can perform routine computer examinations, interpret artifacts, and draft reports after onboarding to our procedures.
- A relevant forensic certification. Examples include CCE, CFCE, GCFE, GCFA, EnCE, or relevant Magnet or Cellebrite credentials.
- Practical tool experience. You have used tools such as Cellebrite Inspector, Cellebrite PA, Magnet AXIOM, Forensic Explorer, FTK, or comparable industry standard forensic software. Experience with every tool is not required.
- Careful work and dependable follow-through. You check details, take responsibility for your work, meet commitments, and protect confidential information. You respond constructively to feedback and help colleagues meet case deadlines.
- Denver-area availability. You live in the area and can commute to our downtown office on the schedule above.
Helpful additional experience: Civil litigation, internal or departing-employee investigations, mobile or cloud examinations, scripting, client consulting, and deposition or trial testimony.
Applicants with relevant experience beyond the target range are welcome if this individual-contributor role fits their interests and expectations.
Why join Forensic Discovery?
- Responsibility for real casework: Own assigned examinations and see how your findings help answer clients' questions.
- Direct collaboration: Work with forensic colleagues and clients, with peer review built into the work.
- Training and certification support: Continue building your forensic skills with company support for professional development.
Some travel and after-hours work may be required to meet client and case needs.
Pay and benefits
Annual base salary: $75,000–$120,000, depending on relevant experience and demonstrated capabilities.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance, with a company contribution toward the cost.
- 10 days of paid time off.
- 18 scheduled company holidays, under the company holiday calendar.
- 3 personal days for religious or other observances.
- A 401(k) plan with company matching, under the plan's terms.
Benefits are subject to applicable company policies and plan terms.
Apply
Apply through Indeed with your resume and a short description of one examination you personally performed: the question you investigated, your role, and how you reported the findings. Include your relevant certifications. No cover letter is required. Please leave out confidential client information.
Apply by November 30, 2026. We are aiming for a start date by the end of the year.
The hiring process includes an initial conversation, a later-stage practical using approved test material, and a discussion of your findings. Tools needed for the practical will be provided or made available; you do not need your own commercial forensic software licenses.
You may redact your age, date of birth, and dates of school attendance or graduation from requested application materials. Your application will be considered without that information.
