Exo Group, LLC has been protecting public infrastructure across the U.S. since 2009. Without consistent maintenance and quality assurance, critical assets face a growing risk of failure over time. Exo delivers engineering, inspection, and remediation services for lighting poles, transmission towers, and other infrastructure exposed to ongoing wear from usage, aging, and environmental conditions.
With deep expertise in vertical infrastructure, Exo builds on years of engineering design and fabrication experience across utilities, telecom, transportation, and retail sectors. This foundation supports a comprehensive inspection and asset management approach that addresses both new installations and aging structures requiring immediate attention.
Recognizing that full replacement is often impractical due to cost and safety constraints,
Exo developed its “Ex-Tend” approach to manage assets throughout their entire life cycle. From initial quality assurance to ongoing inspection and targeted repairs, this method is designed to extend service life and improve reliability. Supported by data-driven insights, Exo helps clients monitor asset conditions and make informed, strategic decisions.
At Exo, engineering isn’t just a job — it’s a craft we love, a team we trust, and a place where great people come to do the best work of their careers. We’re a small, high-performance engineering team built on clarity, quality, and deep expertise. That size is our advantage: we move fast, stay flexible, and keep our focus exactly where it belongs — on our people, our projects, and our clients.
We’re a team of passionate engineers who genuinely enjoy the work and enjoy working together. You’ll find experts who freely share knowledge and leaders who backstop the team. We care about expertise, we care about growth, and we care about delivering outcomes that genuinely matter — for our clients and for each other. And yes — we have fun doing it.
Position Summary: A developing professional engineering role responsible for defined transmission line design components, smaller work packages, and increasingly independent field engineering and construction-support activities. The role applies established engineering methods, recognizes common field and design issues, and coordinates assigned work with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform overhead transmission line engineering and design assignments across applicable voltage classes and project types, consistent with demonstrated competency and assigned level.
- Own defined design components or smaller work packages and develop, review, or support complete transmission line design packages, including plan and profile drawings; lattice tower and steel pole design, structural analysis, and tower modeling; structure framing; load and design drawings; insulator details; grounding; guying and anchors; foundations; sag and tension data; bills of material; and technical specifications. Coordinate inputs and deliver assigned work within established scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Use PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, and other applicable transmission line, tower modeling, structural analysis, and foundation design tools under the level of review appropriate for the position.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, clients, construction personnel, inspectors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and support schedule, quality, and deliverable commitments.
- Apply applicable codes, standards, utility criteria, approved drawings, specifications, and engineering practices in the preparation and review of work products.
- Perform defined on-site field engineering assignments with periodic guidance, including constructability reviews, evaluation of field conditions, comparison of installed work with approved drawings, specifications, utility requirements, and applicable codes and standards, and coordination of routine technical questions with construction and inspection teams; prepare clear issue documentation and recommended resolutions for senior review.
- Review or support review of contractor submittals, requests for information, material documentation, inspection records, as-built information, turnover packages, punch-list items, and project acceptance documentation as assigned.
- Identify and document design discrepancies, field conditions, construction deviations, deficiencies, and potential non-conformances; promptly elevate safety-critical or technically significant issues through the project escalation process.
- Coordinate with field engineers and inspectors to translate engineering requirements into clear acceptance criteria and to obtain complete, traceable supporting documentation.
- Track assigned deficiencies and support resolution, verification, and closure of corrective actions, including punch-list verification and follow-up within delegated authority; maintain independence, objectivity, and clear separation between observation, engineering recommendation, and owner acceptance authority.
- Provide informal guidance to Engineer I staff and designers and perform peer checks of routine work.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (civil, mechanical or electrical engineering).
- Typically 5-10 years of relevant transmission line engineering, construction support, field engineering, or related utility experience.
- FE/EIT certification preferred. Progress toward PE licensure is expected where the position supports engineering decisions or future responsible charge.
- Transmission line design knowledge appropriate for the assigned grade, including structures, foundations, conductors, grounding, clearances, loading, and constructability.
- Experience with PLS-CADD and PLS-Pole appropriate for the assigned grade; working knowledge of PLS-Tower, tower modeling, and structural or foundation design software is preferred where relevant.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel; experience with engineering calculations, technical reports, and document control systems is preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly, work across office and field teams, manage assigned priorities, and document technical decisions objectively.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform computer-based engineering and document review for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, field reviews, inspections, and construction support assignments as required.
- Ability to safely navigate utility rights-of-way, active construction areas, uneven terrain, and outdoor environments while wearing required personal protective equipment.
- Visual acuity sufficient to review detailed drawings, models, calculations, materials, and construction conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds of plans, field equipment, or related materials.
Mental and Cognitive Work Demands
- Ability to analyze complex technical information and apply engineering principles to solve problems.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy while performing engineering calculations, modeling, and design review.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects or deadlines in a professional work environment.
- Ability to interpret engineering codes, standards, and technical documents.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively in written and verbal formats.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment and make informed engineering decisions.
