NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual seeking a position with the potential of career advancement.
This Engineering Technician I position located in Division 14, District 3 Office involves technical work supporting technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations, including proficiency in record keeping. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
- Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involves explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups
Additional Expectations
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and / or construction surveying
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
- Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer / iPad data entry
The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required. The selected candidate may be subject to non-traditional hours, work nights and weekends as needed due to construction inspection/operations and during inclement weather/disaster events. The selected candidate may be subject to a wide range of hazards such as rough or uneven terrain and/or work in adverse weather conditions to include heat and cold. This position also requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Associate degree in civil engineering technology, survey technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
