Engineering Technician
Job Description for Engineering Tech Responsible for Manpower Forecasts, P&ID Reviews, and List Management
Position Overview
The Engineering Technician is a critical member of our project engineering team, responsible for supporting a wide range of technical and administrative activities that are the backbone of successful project execution. This role involves maintaining and updating manpower forecasts on a weekly basis, ensuring the accuracy of engineering documentation (specifically Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, or P&IDs), and meticulously populating and managing various technical lists such as Line Lists, Manual Valve Lists, Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) Lists, Specialty Item Lists, Tie-in Lists, among others. The Engineering Technician also provides support for several other general tasks as required by the project and discipline leads.
Key Responsibilities
Manpower Forecast Updates:
· Review and update project manpower forecasts on a weekly schedule, reflecting current project scope, schedule changes, and resource availability.
· Collaborate with project managers and discipline leads to anticipate staffing needs for upcoming project phases and deliverables.
· Maintain accurate records of personnel assignments and notify relevant stakeholders of forecast adjustments.
· Update weekly reports and summaries to project management regarding workforce utilization and projections.
P&ID Review and Accuracy Checks:
· Perform detailed reviews of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams to verify engineering and design accuracy.
· Cross-reference P&IDs against other project documents and specifications to ensure consistency.
· Flag discrepancies, ambiguities, or missing information for correction by appropriate engineering teams.
· Assist in maintaining revision control and documentation integrity for all P&ID updates.
Technical List Population and Management:
· Populate and manage Line Lists, Manual Valve Lists, PSV Lists, Specialty Item Lists, and Tie-in Lists based on latest project drawings and specifications.
· Ensure lists are complete, accurate, and reflect all design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
· Liaise with engineering disciplines to gather required data and resolve information gaps.
· Maintain centralized documentation repositories and update project database systems as necessary.
General Engineering Support:
· Assist with document control and project filing, ensuring all records are well-organized and easily retrievable.
· It is crucial to highlight the need for strong analytical skills. These skills are essential for effectively diagnosing issues, optimizing processes, and making data-driven decisions that enhance overall project performance.
· Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation workflows and processes.
· Participate in internal meetings, project reviews, and technical discussions as required.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
· Ensure all technical lists and project documentation conform to company and client standards.
· Follow established quality assurance protocols, and actively seek ways to minimize errors and omissions.
· Assist in the preparation of documentation packages for client reviews, regulatory submissions, and construction handover.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
· Work closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to support project objectives.
· Facilitate communication and cooperation between teams.
· Respond promptly to requests for information, documentation, or clarification as needed.
Administrative and Miscellaneous Duties:
· Assist with preparation and updating of project schedules.
· Support the organization of project documentation for audits and closeout activities.
· Carry out other tasks as assigned by discipline leads or project management.
Qualifications and Experience
· Experience: 2-5 years in an engineering support role preferred, preferably within oil & gas, chemical processing, or industrial construction projects.
· Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, engineering drawings, and technical specifications preferred.
· Experience with technical list management and database tools (e.g., Excel, SharePoint, project-specific software).
· Competence in project scheduling and resource planning applications is an asset.
· Understanding of document control processes and best practices.

Working Conditions
· This position is based solely in our Midland, Texas office. Remote work options are not available.
· Occasional trips to our Houston, Texas office may be necessary.
· Occasional fieldwork or site visits may be necessary.
· Monday through Thursday schedule, 7 am to 6 pm with an hour for lunch.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,739.62 - $70,000.00 per year
