Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled HQHVSN Veterinary Surgeon to join our compassionate team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for animal care and welfare, along with the expertise to perform high volume spay/neuter procedures on cats and dogs. The ideal candidate will also be able to provide relief wellness and urgent services when the chief veterinarian is out.
About Us
HSSM is a private 501(c)3 animal shelter with an on-site wellness and spay/neuter clinic that is open to the public as well as for our shelter animals. Our shelter has an intake of around 6,000 animals per year, and our clinic stays very busy with an average of 12,000 appointments per year. We have a strong support team with decades of combined experience. We are right on the Mississippi Gulf Coast about 5 minutes from the beach. The mission of the Humane Society of South Mississippi is to save and enhance the lives of pets through cooperative and innovative approaches to adoption, spay/neuter, sheltering, wellness and community engagement.
Duties
- Perform spay/neuter surgeries to shelter and public pets and all
- duties necessary to safely perform those surgeries, 28-35 per surgical day
- depending on the makeup of the schedule
- Other types of surgeries as needed and agreed upon (leg amputation,
- eye enucleation, etc).
- Relief/emergency veterinary services to shelter animals
- Relief/emergency veterinary services to clients in our Wellness Clinic
- Performing necropsies as needed
Skills
- Proficient in pet care and animal handling, ensuring the comfort and
- safety of all patients.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology and animal physiology to
- effectively communicate with team members and pet owners.
- Experience with aseptic technique to maintain sterile environments
- during surgical procedures.
- Ability to perform animal restraint safely and effectively during
- examinations and treatments.
- Familiarity with dog handling techniques for various breeds and
- temperaments.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
