Overview
BalanX Bio is seeking a talented Product Design Engineer to help bring our AI-powered coffee machine from prototype to scalable production. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in CAD modeling, prototyping, and design for manufacturability, with experience in consumer electronics or appliance development. You will work closely with engineers, designers, and manufacturing partners to ensure product components are precise, functional, and ready for mass production.
Key Responsibilities
- Prototyping Phase: Develop 3D models, simulations, and initial assemblies in tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or Inventor to create functional prototypes. Ensure components (e.g., brewing mechanisms, sensors, enclosures) fit and function as intended.
- Production Transition: Create precise 2D technical drawings, tolerances, bills of materials (BOM), and manufacturing specifications (blueprints). Apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to meet ISO/ASME standards for manufacturability, scalability, and quality control.
- Collaboration: Partner with mechanical engineers, industrial designers, and manufacturing teams to refine designs, address material selection (e.g., food-safe plastics for coffee components), and optimize for cost-effective mass production (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Inventor).
- Experience with prototyping methods such as 3D printing, CNC machining, or rapid prototyping.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Familiarity with bills of materials (BOM), tolerancing, and GD&T standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in technical documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in consumer electronics, appliances, or IoT-enabled devices.
- Familiarity with material selection for food-contact products and regulatory standards.
- Knowledge of mass-production techniques such as injection molding or sheet metal fabrication.
- Understanding of lifecycle design, sustainability, and cost optimization.
- Strong portfolio showcasing prototypes, CAD models, and production-ready designs.
