Long standing, faith based Houston non-profit seeks Director of Finance
DESCRIPTION:
Our client is a well known non-profit headquartered in Houston, Texas. This organization is a faith based organization and has been serving Houston for more than 100 years. This wonderful, flexible organization is searching for an experienced Director of Finance to have oversight of all accounting, finance, human resources, IT and the business office. Specifically, this role is responsible for oversight, tracking and reporting of all financial activity, plus management of office services. This role has 3 direct reports and is the top financial professional in the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Controller
- Ensure the fundamentals of standard accounting principles, policies and standards are implemented and procedures documented.
- Timely closing of books & reporting on a monthly and annual basis.
- Manage cash flow and banking relationships.
- Monitor investment performance.
- Ensure staff / leadership adheres to accounting policy.
- Review insurance needs and advise on opportunities to mitigate risk.
- Provide all documentation requested by an outside auditing firm to complete the annual audit.
- Organize, coordinate and compile an annual budget.
- Oversight of revenue.
- Maintaining clear distinctions between net assets without donor restrictions and those with donor restrictions.
- Review work completed by direct reports.
Technology
- Provide oversight for information technology.
- Review and process all purchase orders for technology.
- Provide planning and follow-up on technology projects.
- Coordinate bid reviews for new or recurring major purchases.
Human Resources
- Recording and tracking payroll.
- Maintain employee files and document retention policies.
- Remain in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Assist with the resolution of employment issues, benefits inquiries, and salary questions.
- Provide support for hiring and terminations.
- Complete exit interviews with non-returning staff.
Business Management
- Review financial information with senior leadership each month.
- Maintain and update 5-year plan and forecasting.
- Serve as a member of President’s Team and Finance Committee, as well as attend all Board of Advisors meetings.
- Lead Financial Reporting at the Board and Finance Committee Meetings.
- Tracking corporate documentation and protection of non-profit status.
- Manage contracts.
- Review and update policies and procedures as needed.
- Complete projects as assigned.
- Provide direct supervision to 3 employees.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or relevant Business degree required, MBA or CPA preferred.
- Minimum 8 years work experience in Finance / Accounting field.
- Ability and experience to work independently and in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with the staff, Board members, and other constituencies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, friendly demeanor and must be approachable.
- Competent in database management, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Organized and detail oriented.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
