Position Overview
We are seeking a Telecom Project Manager to lead cost reduction and rate optimization initiatives across domestic and international telecom services. The ideal candidate will analyze large billing datasets, identify inefficiencies, negotiate with major carriers, and implement measurable savings projects for public-sector clients such as the MTA. This role requires strong analytical, financial, and project management skills, with a hands-on, execution-oriented approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit and analyze large telecom billing datasets (wireline, wireless, international long distance, roaming, IoT/M2M) to identify inefficiencies, billing errors, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Benchmark domestic and international telecom rates, identify rate drivers, and recommend optimized pricing or routing alternatives.
- Lead carrier/vendor negotiations (Verizon, AT&T, MVNOs, international carriers) to reduce monthly and one-time charges.
- Develop and manage end-to-end cost-savings projects including scope, business case, timeline, risk mitigation, procurement, and implementation.
- Reconcile carrier invoices, dispute inaccuracies, and implement invoice validation controls and automation processes.
- Build and maintain detailed cost models, monthly reports, and dashboards to track baseline spend, realized savings, and forecasts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Legal, Procurement, Network Operations, and public-sector stakeholders.
- Implement rate optimization strategies such as pooled plans, aggregated contracts, and international tariff management.
- Develop and document operational playbooks, including contract negotiation guides, invoice audit procedures, vendor scorecards, and escalation paths.
- Manage third-party consultants and ensure vendor SLAs and deliverables are met.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in telecom project management, cost optimization, or vendor management.
- Direct experience with major telecom carriers such as Verizon and AT&T.
- Strong background in financial analysis and cost control within telecom operations.
- Proven ability to identify and deliver measurable telecom cost savings.
- Advanced Excel skills including complex formulas, PivotTables, Power Query, Power Pivot, data modeling, and VBA/macros.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience managing carrier contracts and invoice disputes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for executive and cross-functional coordination.
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of managing both tactical and strategic tasks.
- Experience with public-sector clients (e.g., MTA or other government agencies) strongly preferred.
