Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Product Design Engineer - Aerospace to join our innovative team. In this position you will own the design details of aerospace components, with the main function of mechanical actuation on commercial and military platforms. Supports the product throughout the entire life cycle, from design proposal through product manufacturing. Creates engineering drawings, design / testing documents, and prototypes for qualification of the aerospace product. Responsible for updates, improvements, and maintenance of existing products. A key contributor of new business initiatives. Products include sliding control cables, ball bearing control cables, gearboxes, handle assemblies, spring cartridges, electro-mechanical actuators, and assemblies thereof.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the technical details of a new product development while communicating design information internally, with the customer, with suppliers, and with regulatory bodies (FAA)
- Apply engineering knowledge of material selection, kinematics, stress analysis, manufacturing, and mechanical assembly. Electrical engineering background or knowledge is a plus
- Develop detailed drawings of mechanical assemblies with assistance from drafters
- Construct acceptance test procedures to validate proper assembly and functionality
- Lead new product development and R&D projects with internal engineering laboratory
- Create and participate in design reviews with manufacturing, quality engineers, and customers
- Review engineering design changes and recommend modifications to minimize cost and improve ease of manufacturing
- Prepare technical proposals to satisfy customer specification requirements
- Estimate and maintain effective control of project cost and schedule
- Active member of the material review board to disposition non-compliant product
- Assist teams with problem solving and failure analysis
- Work with team members to develop capable, cost effective manufacturing and assembly processes concurrent to product design activities to ensure robust designs are delivered to the customer
- Perform other related duties as required and may be assigned
Qualifications:
- 0-5 years of engineering experience
- Team player and strong self-manager
- Ability to understand data, and possess exceptional analytical and problem solving abilities
- Demonstrated ability to be a ‘hands-on’ type individual, with the ability to interface with the production team and engineering lab
- Ability to shift gears quickly and wear many hats
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Action oriented and self-starters
- Able to recognize opportunities for product improvements
- Knowledge of and experience in the aerospace manufacturing businesses is a plus
- Proficient with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Understanding of Data Acquisition software (LabVIEW preferred)
- Experience in machining, fixturing, and knowledge of CNC equipment is preferred
- Experience with and proficient knowledge in use of computers, MS Office Suite, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Occasional travel - local, national and international around 5%
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical or aerospace preferred)
