About the Role
Biological Prospects LLC is seeking a driven Molecular Biologist / Microbiologist to lead projects in yeast genome engineering and protein expression with a focus on Pichia pastoris (syn. Komagataella phaffii).
As the first hire in our new veterinary biologics division, you’ll have the unique opportunity to shape a growing program from the ground up. This highly independent role offers the chance to design and execute experiments, optimize protein expression systems, and directly influence the success of a rapidly evolving company. Expert consultants will provide targeted support, but you will own the day-to-day science and drive the program forward. If you thrive in hands-on, self-directed environments and want to make a measurable impact, this position is for you.
What You’ll Do
- Yeast & Microbial Work: Prepare media, culture bacteria and yeast, and apply rigorous aseptic technique.
- Molecular Biology: Perform transformations (E. coli, Pichia pastoris), plasmid prep, PCR, cloning, and electrophoresis.
- Protein Expression & Purification: Optimize inducible yeast expression systems, analyze expression via SDS-PAGE/Western blot, and contribute to purification workflows.
- Fermentation & Process Development: Run small-scale fermentations, troubleshoot expression challenges, and explore scale-up opportunities (bioreactors experience is a plus).
- Lab Operations: Oversee daily lab activities, manage reagents and equipment, and ensure safety compliance.
- Project Ownership: Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments independently, while integrating expert feedback as needed.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- BSc (Hons) in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or related discipline.
- Hands-on experience with yeast genome engineering and yeast expression systems.
- Strong skills in PCR, gene cloning, protein expression, and purification.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Pichia pastoris and fermentation optimization.
- Prior industry research experience in biotechnology or biologics development.
Skills That Set You Apart
- Technical expertise in molecular biology and microbial techniques.
- Organizational excellence—able to juggle priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Clear communicator—skilled at writing reports and presenting data.
- Independent & detail-oriented—self-motivated with high scientific rigor.
