The Product Maintenance Engineer is responsible for developing and improving products, making design suggestions that allow for or accommodating manufacturing best practices, and supporting estimating, costing, and process improvements. This role works closely with Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Sales teams to ensure products are cost-effective, high-quality, and manufacturable.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design Integration
- Review and aid in development of design packages to integrate manufacturing feedback, best practices, and code compliance.
- Produce and maintain engineering hand-off documentation and field change drawings to support both standard and custom products.
- Align BOMs and part numbers with ERP/inventory systems, ensuring accurate documentation and revisions.
- Assist in Structural, Plumbing, Electrical, and HVAC system design and verification of compliance with relevant standards (ASHRAE, IBC, IPC, NEC, NFPA, etc.).
Manufacturing Process Support
- Analyze manufacturing feedback to improve product design and production methods.
- Investigate “Management of Change” (MOC) logs
- root cause analysis
- determine validity or necessity of change requests
- Troubleshoot and develop solutions for issues related to design, materials, or manufacturing processes.
Estimating & Cost Control
- Assist Product Engineers with maintenance and updates to internal estimating tools and dashboards.
- Develop and maintain standard and custom product estimates, including ROM estimates for feasibility.
- Participate in sales calls and customer meetings to define scopes, advise on capabilities, and integrate requirements into pricing.
- Communicate with vendors for pricing and specify custom components as needed.
- Identify and execute change orders based on scope modifications.
Product Development & Improvement
- Support the development of new standard products and review new concepts for manufacturability.
- Lead or assist with projects focused on product improvement, manufacturing process optimization, labor and material cost reduction, and equipment specification.
- Integrate manufacturing best practices and feedback into new product designs and launches.
Skills & Requirements
- Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical preferred).
- 1 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing, product development, or estimating/costing roles.
- Strong understanding of project management and scoping processes and tools.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (current release or within two releases).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to visualize concepts and translate them into 3D models, drawings, and documentation.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
