Quality Engineer – Electronics Manufacturing

Location: Chelmsford MA
Type: Direct Hire

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Quality Engineer with a strong electronics manufacturing background, especially in PCBs, cables, harnesses, documentation control, and inspection. This role ensures product and process compliance to quality standards through testing, analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. Candidates must have experience working in an AS9100-certified environment and a deep understanding of electronic assembly processes.

Document Control: Quality documents, ECO processing, technical releases.
Inspection: Incoming and in-process inspection of electronic components.
Corrective Action: Leading, driving, and tracking resolution efforts.
MRB Control: Evaluation and disposition of non-conforming material.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Internal consulting, troubleshooting, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Quality Systems and Documentation Control

Initiate and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including review and signoff.
Maintain control and retention of technical documentation per the ECO process.
Generate, review, and approve documentation updates in accordance with quality system requirements.

Inspection and Compliance

Develop, implement, and manage quality standards and inspection methods for incoming materials and in-process production.
Inspect complex electronic components using precision tools to verify quality and conformance.
Validate and generate First Article Inspection (FAI) reports per AS9102.
Lead and participate in internal quality audits per AS9100 standards.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

Review and disposition non-conforming material, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Lead Material Review Board (MRB) activities.
Track production failures and data trends to recommend and implement process improvements.

Supplier and Cross-Functional Engagement

Assess supplier capabilities, especially in customer-approved special processes.
Monitor supplier performance and maintain the Approved Vendor List (AVL) in partnership with Purchasing.
Interpret quality requirements and quality clauses from purchase orders to ensure supplier understanding.
Schedule and lead supplier quality audits and resolve ongoing quality issues.

Cross-Department Collaboration

Act as a liaison and technical advisor to Purchasing, Production, and Test departments.
Support Total Quality Management (TQM) initiatives in daily operations.
Report monthly on quality performance metrics and areas of concern.

Desired Background/Skills:

BS in Engineering (or equivalent experience in electronics contract manufacturing).
5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in an AS9100-certified electronics manufacturing environment.
Solid understanding of electronic assembly, test, and troubleshooting processes, including PCB, cable, and harness manufacturing.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Inspection experience is required.
IPC and J-STD certifications preferred.
