This position serves as designer and production artist primarily for books, and also for other resources such as e-books, and special print and digital products, and digital supplements for print books. The Production Designer is responsible for the design, proper file setup, layout, and detailed correction throughout the production process of books—covers and interiors— (and other resources) according to long-standing LTP design and production principles and standards. Both design and production art are essential to this position.
Specific Duties:
- Serve as designer and production artist of products, as assigned, in collaboration with editor, management, marketing, and production teams.
- Create designs styling and original art (as needed) according to the predesign concept. Conduct peer reviews of designs. Receive design approval by conducting design presentations.
- Lay out large volumes of content—consistency and speed are key in our workflows.
- Pour content from Word files into Adobe InDesign, and apply styles provided in templates or indicated on provided style guides.
- Import and apply/verify edits as indicated on proof markups (usually PDF).
- Export book files as PDFs using specified settings.
- Follow strict file-naming conventions and file set-up guidelines.
- Preflight INDD files for printing; perform file checks (final peer review following the established checklist); send printer files to the printer directly, or upload to their InSite or FTP site.
- Manipulate and color-correct images and graphics using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Create marketing images and materials as requested.
- Collaborate with other members of the production team on templates.
- Participate in Status, New Products, Predesign, Design, Scheduling, and impromptu meetings.
- Maintain established efficiencies and standards, ensuring LTP quality and brand identification.
- Partner to review, process, and ensure quality, value, and versatility of hired illustration for LTP’s image library.
- Communicate issues to Managing Editor, Art and Design Director, and Senior Production Designer regarding priorities, schedules, project assignment, processes, and house style. Propose solutions, and follow-up on progress.
- Contribute ideas and methods for converting traditional publishing media to new media formats.
- Convert print books to e-book formats as assigned.
- Attend, and stay abreast of emerging technology, training opportunities, workshops, trade events, and creative trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or determined by Management team.

This position has an annualized salary range of $47,720.17 - $52,000.00. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
