Job Summary:
The Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) is seeking an early-career professional with strong financial literacy and analytical skills to assist in supporting high-impact financial & operational advisory services. This position assists NHA advisory professionals in defining and documenting business requirements; providing optimal healthcare operational, revenue cycle & transformation related services; and developing quantitative support for wide-ranging other improvement initiatives.
The Healthcare Consultant & Business Intelligence Analyst must have a broad-based healthcare finance, operations, revenue cycle, IT and informatics background with a proven talent for designing, extracting, validating, processing and reporting data for decision-making purposes. This role requires a health care professional with experience and an ability to navigate hospital Electronic Health Records, financial and data systems in support of high-quality consulting advisory services.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and abilities as follows:
- Assist with a wide range of project-based requests to support NHA’s growing health data & business intelligence advisory services. Conduct financial analysis related to hospital and clinic operations, reimbursement, and payer contracts.
- Utilize advanced data analytics techniques to interpret complex healthcare datasets and provide actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Extract, transform, and validate data from multiple EHRs and other financial systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner/Oracle, Meditech, TruBridge, Athena, etc.).
- Collaborate with NHA staff and hospitals to ensure extracted data meets design and reporting specifications. Develop written reports and visualizations that clearly communicate findings and support hospital performance improvement.
- Work collaboratively with hospital mid-level and senior leadership to identify & implement targeted revenue cycle, IT and operational alternatives.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, IT or hospital-based clinical specialty (e.g., nursing) required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with health care data, financial and claims information.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare systems, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), health data standards (e.g., HL7), regulatory compliance, and financial aspects of healthcare.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare reimbursement structures (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers). Experience working with hospital Charge Master, cost reports, UB claims data, payer mix analysis, supply chain and IT infrastructure is required.
- Ability to interpret hospital and clinic financial statements is required.
- Skilled in query languages and software for data manipulation and visualization such as Python, SQL, R, Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft Access, Excel or other compatible tools is preferred.
- Proficient in the use of technology to support work activities e.g., expertise in database extraction and ETL tools, data quality analysis, and proven ability to develop charts and graphs to summarize information for reporting purposes, etc.
- Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance in financial reporting.
- Ensure full compliance with HIPAA and relevant security protocols during all data access, handling phases of access and transmission.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid with some in-state & overnight travel required.
