JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Overview:
Calico Wallpaper is seeking a skilled and creative Prepress Designer to join the Production Department. As a Prepress Designer, you will be responsible for taking client architecture drawings and transforming them into elevation and print file layouts using various Adobe Creative Suite applications. Additionally, you will be responsible for outputting assets based on these layouts, ensuring high-quality and accurate files for printing.
Responsibilities:
- Layout design and file preparation: Utilize client-provided architecture drawings and specifications to create elevation and print file layouts for the wallpaper installations. Apply design principles and attention to detail to ensure aesthetically pleasing and accurate representations of the client's vision.
- Adobe Creative Suite proficiency: Utilize Adobe Creative Suite software, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, to create and edit designs, graphics, and layouts. Ensure that all designs are compatible with various printing techniques and processes .
- Print file preparation: Prepare print files, including setting up proper color spaces, resolutions, and file formats (e.g., PDF, TIFF) for different wallpaper printing methods. Follow industry best practices and technical requirements to ensure optimal print quality.
- Image manipulation and enhancement: Edit and enhance images, graphics, and textures to meet design requirements and maintain consistent quality throughout the printing process. Adjust colors, tones, and resolutions as needed.
- Quality control: Conduct thorough quality checks on all prepress files and layouts to ensure accuracy, resolution, and overall quality. Verify that all required elements, such as bleeds, trims, and safety margins, are properly set up for printing.
- Asset output and proofing: Generate print-ready assets based on approved layouts, ensuring they meet the specific printing requirements and are ready for production. Collaborate with the production team to ensure proper output, including color separation, imposition, and any special finishing or effects.
- Collaboration and communication: Work closely with the sales, development, and production teams to gather client requirements, address any design or technical issues. Maintain effective communication to ensure a smooth workflow and meet project deadlines.
- File organization and documentation: Maintain an organized file management system, including version control and archiving, to ensure easy retrieval of client files, layouts, and related assets. Adhere to internal file naming conventions and company procedures for efficient file management
Requirements:
- 1-2 years’ experience in graphic design with a strong portfolio showcasing proficiency in layout design, typography, image manipulation, and print file preparation.
- Familiarity with pre-press operations and possess production / printing knowledge.
- Proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. Familiarity with other design and prepress tools is a plus.
- Solid understanding of printing processes, color management, file formats, and technical requirements for different printing mediums. Knowledge of wallpaper production and specific considerations for large-scale printing is advantageous.
- Attention to detail to ensure accurate layouts, file preparation, and quality control. Strong eye for design aesthetics, color matching, and consistency.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills to maintain an efficient workflow and file management system.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
