Summer Internship – Marketing & Events Coordinator (FIFA 2026)

Pay Status: Hourly Internship-$22.00-$25.00
Duration: Summer 2026 (May–August)
POSITION SUMMARY
The City of North Kansas City, MO is seeking a creative, energetic, and highly organized Marketing & Events Coordinator Intern to support community engagement efforts related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As Kansas City serves as a host city for World Cup matches, NKC anticipates increased tourism, special events, and global attention. This internship provides hands-on experience in municipal communications, event planning, marketing strategy, and interdepartmental coordination.
The intern will assist with planning promotional activities, supporting city-hosted events, managing digital content, coordinating with local businesses, and enhancing the visitor experience during World Cup-related activities.
This is a temporary 11–12-week internship, non-benefits eligible position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in planning, organizing, and executing NKC events tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including watch parties, community festivals, cultural programs, and visitor engagement activities.
- Help create and schedule digital content for the City’s website, social media channels, and email newsletters promoting NKC attractions, events, and visitor resources.
- Support the development of marketing materials such as flyers, graphics, signage, and visitor guides.
- Coordinate with local businesses, tourism partners, and city departments to support collaborative marketing efforts.
- Assist with event logistics including vendor coordination, volunteer communication, setup and teardown, guest services, and data collection.
- Participate in on-site operations during City events and community activations.
- Track engagement metrics and provide reporting on campaign performance and event attendance.
- Conduct basic research on best practices for municipal marketing during large-scale events.
- Provide general administrative support to Communications & Community Development as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Current college student or recent graduate pursuing studies in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous experience in marketing, social media, event planning, or customer service preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok).
- Basic graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong initiative and follow-through.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable interacting with the public and representing the City professionally.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.
- Enthusiasm for community engagement and global sporting events (knowledge of FIFA World Cup is a plus).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in both an office environment and outdoor event settings.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in varying weather conditions when assisting with events.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
- Approximately 30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling.
- Some evenings and weekends required during event periods.
- The Watch Party in North Kansas City will be July 11th, 2026
- Hourly rate commensurate with experience; internship is temporary and does not include benefits.
