Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Automotive Controller to oversee two large volume automotive dealerships. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in accounting, financial management, and regulatory compliance, with a strong understanding of GAAP standards. This role is essential in ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash management, and adherence to regulatory requirements. The Controller will lead the accounting team, manage financial software systems such as CDK, EV6, and Excel, and provide strategic financial insights to support organizational growth. This position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that values integrity, precision, and leadership in financial stewardship. Must have prior automotive controller experience in a high volume setting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP requirements and other regulatory standards relevant to automotive accounting.
- Prepare and review financial reports, including balance sheet reconciliation, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes with accuracy and timeliness.
- Conduct account analysis and account reconciliation to ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Lead budgeting processes and provide forecasting insights to support strategic planning.
- Monitor cash management activities to optimize liquidity.
- Maintain internal controls over financial reporting processes to mitigate risks.
- Supervise the accounting team; provide training on technical accounting issues such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial concepts.
- Implement and maintain accounting software systems including CDK, EV6, Microsoft Office, and other financial management tools.
- Support external audits by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with audit standards.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP compliance standards; experience with automotive accounting.
- Strong technical accounting skills including general ledger reconciliation, account analysis, and balance sheet management.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as CDK and Microsoft Office.
- Deep understanding of cash management and financial analysis for forecasting purposes.
- Ability to prepare and distribute management reports as requested with accuracy and speed.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and presenting complex financial data clearly.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in supervising accounting teams and implementing best practices in a financial environment.
