Overview:
Under limited supervision, the Software Engineer / Application Developer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise, mission-critical applications that support programs and enterprises. This role focuses on supporting and modernizing existing production systems, ensuring system reliability, data integrity, security compliance, and proper documentation.
The Software Engineer works closely with business analysts, project managers, infrastructure teams, security teams, and external vendors to deliver secure, stable, and well-documented solutions in a regulated, process-driven environment.
Skills and Experience:
Required Professional Experience
- 4+ years of professional software development experience supporting enterprise or large-scale systems.
- Experience working in regulated environments such as government, healthcare, insurance, financial services, or other compliance-driven organizations.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining, enhancing, and modernizing existing applications, including working with legacy systems and upgrading platforms incrementally.
- Hands-on experience supporting production systems, including troubleshooting issues, implementing fixes, and participating in scheduled releases or deployments.
- Experience developing and modifying data-driven applications, including writing and optimizing complex SQL queries and supporting business-critical reporting.
- Experience working within a formal Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including documentation, change control, and release management.
- Experience collaborating with business analysts, project managers, infrastructure teams, security teams, and external vendors to deliver integrated solutions.
Enterprise application development experience (4+ years)
Experience in maintaining and enhancing existing production systems
Legacy system support and modernization experience
Proficiency in one primary enterprise stack:
- .NET / C# / ASP.NET (MVC or Core) OR
- Java / J2EE OR
Python (Django / FastAPI)
- Strong SQL skills (complex queries, joins, performance tuning)
