Position Overview:
Waveform Electric Inc. is seeking a knowledgeable IT Consultant for a short-term, 1099 contractor engagement to review, optimize, and improve our current IT systems. The ideal candidate will be local to the Monterey Peninsula area and able to complete the majority of the work on-site. The role requires an initial intensive phase of assessment, system improvements, and documentation, followed by ongoing support on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities:
- Review and assess all existing IT system configurations, hardware setups (laptops, iPads, printers, scanners, monitors), and account structures across PC and iOS devices.
- Evaluate and optimize Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Outlook, and Google Drive environments.
- Develop and implement a plan to improve system performance, security, scalability, and daily workflows.
- Streamline onboarding/offboarding processes and establish reliable data backup procedures.
- Ensure appropriate security measures and cybersecurity best practices are in place.
- Create clear “how-to” guides and document internal best practices.
- Communicate progress, findings, and recommendations to leadership and provide written reports.
- Notify the team of needed upgrades, purchases, or additional support.
- Provide basic training and guidance during and after system improvements.
Requirements
Required
- 3+ years of experience as an IT consultant or in a similar technical role.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, especially OneDrive and Outlook.
- Experience working with PC hardware, iPads/iOS, printers, scanners, and general office IT equipment.
- Understanding cloud storage structures and cross-platform account management.
- Ability to work independently and on-site as needed.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
Preferred
- 5+ years of hands-on IT systems administration or consulting experience.
- Experience supporting small businesses or service-based organizations.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for small enterprises.
- Experience optimizing hybrid cloud environments (Microsoft 365 + Google Drive).
- Ability to recommend scalable IT workflows and system architecture.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $50.00-$70.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Physical Requirements:
This role may occasionally require lifting up to 50 pounds during site visits or project tasks.
Pay: $50.00 - $70.00 per hour
