Product Engineer – Configuration Management
Location: Alpharetta, GA or Ruckersville, VA
We’re seeking a Product Engineer to manage product configuration, release processes, and engineering changes for new and existing electro‑mechanical, electrical, and software‑based products. This role acts as the central link between Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Manufacturing, and Costing—coordinating multiple new product development efforts and ensuring accurate configuration management across the organization.
You will “quarterback” 5–8 projects at a time, receiving new product packages (SolidWorks drawings, product data, etc.) through Arena PLM and driving them through Product Lifecycle (PLC) processes, ECNs, and BOM management in JD Edwards.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Configuration Management
- Manage new products and product updates through the full Product Lifecycle (PLC)
- Receive product packages (mechanical, electrical, software) via Arena PLM and coordinate cross-functional development
- Build and manage Bills of Material (BOMs) and item configurations
- Prepare and submit Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to release design revisions
- Deliver released design data and Technical Data Packages (TDPs) to Operations, Finance, and Quality
- Provide Manufacturing BOMs to Finance for upload into JD Edwards (JDE)
- Create timelines, track progress, and report performance against plan
- Act as a technical resource for Business Development and Program Management
- Work directly with Product Design Engineers to ensure documentation accuracy
- Resolve issues related to manufacturing, quality, and customer requirements
- Evaluate and implement improvements to the PLC and configuration processes
Program & Project Management
- Serve as Project Manager for product changes related to component obsolescence, design updates, and manufacturing improvements
- Liaise between engineering teams and business stakeholders
- Ensure teams have necessary technical and schedule information
- Manage follow-up actions between progress meetings
- Support Phase Gate and PLC process activities
- Assist with documentation, schedule coordination, and administrative project tasks
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
- Experience in product development, configuration management, or a related engineering role
- Experience with ECR/ECO processes and engineering change control
- PE license is a plus
Preferred Knowledge & Background
- Exposure to product development in defense, automotive, industrial, or energy storage industries
- Understanding of lithium energy storage, power electronics, BESS systems, or electro-mechanical systems
- Familiarity with quality systems, ISO standards, design-to-cost practices, safety testing, and compliance requirements
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to manage multiple projects and track products from concept through launch
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and requirements
- Working knowledge of QMS, ISO, military or commercial standards
- Understanding of project management principles and practices
