About Northwestern Millwork
At Northwestern Millwork, we believe doors, windows, and millwork are more than just products; they’re the finishing touches on the places where memories are made, families gather, and communities thrive.
We’re a family-owned business rooted in Steamboat Springs, serving contractors, builders, and homeowners across the Yampa Valley and beyond. Our culture is no-nonsense, collaborative, and approachable—a small team where every person has a voice, and every role makes a difference. Joining us means being part of a growing, forward-thinking company that’s rooted in community, craftsmanship, and care.
The Role
We’re looking for a Sales Associate who can combine relationship-building skills with technical know-how. This role is about being the trusted partner that contractors, architects, and homeowners turn to when they need expertise, guidance, and support.
Unlike many sales positions, you won’t be buried in the weeds of producing quotes all day. We have a dedicated quoting team to handle the bulk of proposal preparation. But you’ll need to know the process inside and out—reading blueprints, understanding materials, and collaborating closely with the quoting team to make sure clients receive accurate, timely proposals. Your focus will be on building relationships, guiding clients through options, and making sure their projects run smoothly from start to finish.
This is a great fit for someone who’s as comfortable talking shop on a jobsite as they are reviewing a set of plans, and who thrives in a collaborative, family-friendly team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, architects, and homeowners
- Guide clients through product options for doors, windows, moulding, and hardware
- Partner with the quoting team to deliver accurate, timely proposals
- Review and understand blueprints to ensure correct materials and specs
- Keep projects moving: follow up with leads, track activity in CRM, and ensure smooth handoffs
- Collaborate with internal teams (quoting, warehouse, delivery, billing) to keep clients informed and jobs on track
- Provide proactive customer service: respond promptly, update clients before they ask, and resolve issues with professionalism
- Represent NWM at builder events, trade shows, or community gatherings
- Identify opportunities to expand accounts and strengthen long-term relationships
- Stay current on vendor offerings and industry trends
- Proactively expand the customer base by building new relationships at job sites, in the community, and through industry events
- As NWM grows, so will your opportunities here—whether that’s taking on bigger accounts, leadership roles, or carving out new responsibilities
What You Bring
- Experience in construction sales, estimating, or related roles (millwork a big plus)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints (or strong willingness to learn)
- Familiarity with building materials, wood species, and hardware
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills—you don’t let things slip through the cracks
- Comfort using CRMs, email, and vendor systems (we’ll provide training)
- A collaborative mindset: we're a small team and you're ready to step into other tasks as needed in service of the overall company goals
- A natural communicator who can build trust and resolve conflicts - deft at handling customer concerns, unexpected challenges, and leading the charge to reassure all involved
- A team-first attitude and entrepreneurial spirit—you take ownership and contribute ideas
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $75,000–$85,000
- Commission: 1–2% of sales, with OTE of $90,000–$120,000+
- Health Insurance: $500 toward coverage with participating provider
- 401(k): Participation with up to 3% matching contributions
- Paid Time Off: 2 weeks in your first year, 3 weeks in subsequent years
- Holidays: 10 company-wide holidays (with flexible substitution options)
- Professional Development: Ongoing training and mentorship, including Sandler sales training
- Work-Life Balance: Consistent weekday schedule so you can enjoy all that Steamboat has to offer
